Star Wars: The Old Republic

Fake or not, that won't be the release date for us. Unless you've ordered through an international site we in SA(along with Australia and every other territory that isn't the EU or US) are only going to get it sometime after the US/EU launch :/. Sucks.

Yup. A couple of us have.

Like I'm going to miss out on THAT collectors edition. No way! :D

Oh, and welcome to the forum, nice to make your acquaintance :)

I'm really not going to bother about the collector's edition, even as much as I've been maddeningly raving on about this game for the last 5 years. It's just a bitttt too much if you ask me.

Is there a South African SWTOR Guild? If so, what is the guild name? or is someone starting a guild?

I would like to start one, but I want to test the waters first, seeing as I will go the whole 9 yards including website, forums TS or Vent etc...

Sorry, I've been out of the loop for a while, is SWTOR actually in alpha/beta yet? what are the comments like by beta players if it is?

The Vault preview had me interested for a few minutes.

Things are starting to look a better now, but I still remain weary of getting overly excited too soon.

I am mostly ignoring all the in-game videos. When early access starts I want to be surprised and wowed.

Have already finished SWTR Deceived and SWTOR Fatal Alliance and they were great!

I'm trying my best not to be bothered by any more teasers, trailers, spoilers and news releases. It's too much for my feeble mind to contain! :o

I'm very concerned though about the early access. I'm only on a 384kb line, and scared that i won't have the 40 odd gb client downloaded in time.

I am even more concerned, I dont have the ability to download the client AT ALL! Will have to beg for someone to send it to me. Probably will send a drive.

I've just received the Deceived novel and I am loving it! I have already ordered Fatal Alliance. I am part of a rather large EU guild but not massive (+- 200members) so we also hoping for a guild invite!

Let me know if you find someone willing to help out, sommer willing to pay :P

I asked the same question on the SWTOR forums and got this awesome response!

Here's my schpeel...

Reading for Old Republic Based Knowledge (Preparing for SWtOR):

If you're looking to bone up on your knowledge of the Old Republic era and/or the events surrounding the OR era in SW history, whether out of pure interest or in an effort to get ready for SWtOR, read the following:

Revan (scheduled to be released later this year)
Deceived
Red Harvest (a "horror" novel, not recommended by most people, but may interest some)
Fatal Alliance
Darth Bane: Path of Destruction
Darth Bane: Rule of Two (technically takes place during the Rise of the Empire era in SW history, but still relevant)
Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil (technically takes place during the Rise of the Empire era in SW history, but still relevant)

Reading Chronologically:

If you are looking to start reading chronologically, then make sure to follow wookieepedia's Timeline of Books. I generally stick to the "Adult Novels", but I have heard good things about some of the other types of books (ie Young Adult, etc) from some people.

Reading Only "The Best" SW Novels (Disregarding Reading Chronologically):

If you're looking to just read the cream of the crop, best SW books available and don't mind jumping around time periods, then here are my top recommendations:

The Darth Bane Trilogy (Path of Destruction, Rule of Two, Dynasty of Evil)
Cloak of Deception
Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter
Outbound Flight
Han Solo Trilogy (The Paradise Snare, The Hutt Gambit, Rebel Dawn)
Splinter of the Mind's Eye
Shadows of the Empire
The Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy (The Mandalorian Armor, Slave Ship, Hard Merchandise)
Thrawn Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command)
The Jedi Academy Trilogy (Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice, Champions of the Force)
I, Jedi
The Hand of Thrawn Duology (Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future)

Reference Books for Expanding Knowledge of SW Universe:

For further information on specific and/or technical star wars information head to your local bookstore and browse through some of the "Star Wars: "Essential" Guides. If your interested in anything about the Force, Jedi, Sith, Force-sensitive cults/groups, holocrons, lightsaber combat forms, I highly recommend taking a look at Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force.

Nice.

I got them the other day. Finished Deceived & Fatal alliance a week ago.
Got Red Harvest & the 3 Darth bane books.

Awesome!
