Im thinking they are pre-installing the expansion, which is nice.. and of coarse a issue when you have to balance night owl cap across two 3g contracts guess it a late night for me

The download will be around six gigabytes in size, and will continue to pick up data so long as the game launcher is running. You can always check the progress of your download by clicking the "Info" button at the top of the launcher, then selecting "Connection Information" from the drop-down menu. If you wish to complete the update later, simply click the "Play" button at any point to pause the download and run StarCraft II, or close the launcher. Unlike some of our other games, no background downloading will occur while StarCraft II is running. Data will resume downloading the next time you run the launcher.

My theory is its one of two things:
1) the actual hots expansion already in place waiting for sweet sweet activation.

2) they overhauled wol with the hots graphics \ engine or something to that effect.
 
They did this with the expansions for wow, its usually the whole client so that its ready for play the night of launch. So its more than likely game data - i cant verify this as work blocks anything Blizzard related ( Boss is an ex wow player )

22Gb is odd, 14Gb still kind of makes sense if the thing decided to re-download the entire client,a fresh download is 14Gb.

Are you sure it downloaded 14Gb, the total said 14Gb but it already had 8Gb if your client was already up to date

I can't verify that, but some users were complaining on the forums.

I'm not sure, it showed 14GB was the total.
 
I just had a backround downloader going last night, forgot to leave it on however after i went to bed ><
