StarCraft II Delayed Again???

Following Activision Blizzard’s delay of Singularity to 2010, an analyst predicts that Starcraft 2 will also be postponed to next year.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia said it was likely that Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty would be moved to 2010 in order to make room for the November release of highly anticipated shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is forecast to sell 11 million copies.

Bhatia also cited the recent delay of Starcraft 2’s beta as a sign that the full release may be pushed to next year.
According to the Journal, Starcraft 2 is slated for an October launch and is expected to sell three million units. Blizzard has said that the company was aiming to release the title this year. Activision declined to comment on Starcraft 2’s release.

It makes sense for Activision to have Singularity, a first-person shooter and a new intellectual property originally due this fall, to stay out of Modern Warfare’s way — though the delay has also caused some speculation about the state of the game’s development.

But Starcraft 2 is a real-time strategy title, one that hardcore fans have been waiting over a decade for. Would its sales really be cannibalized by Modern Warfare? If Starcraft 2 was delayed, it could also be due to Blizzard’s policy of taking as much time as it needs to complete a game.

Even if the game’s launch is postponed to early 2010, Starcraft 2 should still be a big money-maker. Plus, if there is a delay, angry fans can hope that Blizzard changes their mind and puts local area network play back in.

Makes business sense. I mean you have got other mamoth titles hitting us this Christmas time, BioShock 2, Assasins Creed 2, Alpha Protocol, Left4Dead 2. So yeah i would wait to if i was them.

Sigh at Activision screwing with Blizzard

I don't see how a RTS can eat FPS sales

I do agree with

Blizzard games are always top notch... lets just hope Diablo 3 isn't delayed

Its not a case of RTS eating FPS sales. Is a question of MW2 selling an estimated 11 milion copies while SCII is only rumored to sell around 3 mil. If i had to chose between paying R500 for MW2 or R500 for SCII i am so buying MW2. But if MW came out in Nov/Dec and SCII in Jan/Feb/March ill buy it.

I would first go with SC II, I've lost my love for clan games. I'm going to try and do the competitive thing with starcraft again. Seeing as warcraft died completely in this country.

lets seethough, they say 3 mil copies sold for SC2 highly unlikely, them koreans will buy at least 4 copies each, i mean its a sport for them, whoever sucked the 3 mil out their thumbs can kiss my shiney behind, i predict more copies than COD

Even with the No-Lan Debacle? I guess the possibility exists. But not if their released at the same time or in close proximity. SC will sell alot more if its released in 2010. Remember SC has alot of Die Hard fans but MW will be picked up by ever 12 - 29 year old in the US of A. Not to mention the rest of the world. FPS almost always outsell RTS due to the simple fact FPS is easier than RTS. Im an RTS guy myself but might wait for the price to drop on SC before getting it, or waiting till all 3 are in one pack.
