Steam account hacked

Hey guys It seems my steam account has been hacked.

I just received and email this morning telling me the email account associated with the steam account has been changed.

Busy contacting steam about it now.

Weirdly enough it happened just after I went through my monthly password changes.
 
And that's why i don't like Steam.

Hope you get this sorted out,I register all my games on separate steam accounts and a few extra e-mail addresses.
 
I hope I get it sorted as well, there is still $12 in my steam wallet and never mind the amount of games I have on there!

Btw this could have happened to Uplay to... Or origin... Steam accounts aren't the only one's that can get hacked.

I'm aware of that,my Blizzard account got hacked quite a few times when i was playing SC2.

I'm not even sure if it's still mine anymore because i haven't logged in to SC2 since last year.
 
Touch wood but I've never had an account hacked, but its rarely the fault of service provider and normally due to phishing an/or spyware. With steam guard it should be virtually impossible without them having access to your email in the first place.
 
Sorry to hear Wyvern. I do hope that you get set right again by the steam support guys.

Let's all gang up, hunt the hackers and pull their toenails out with pliers....
 
Yea I have a suspicion it was via gmail that they managed to get in. This after I had just changed all passwords, and no two are alike. Oh well, now to wait and see if steam contacts me someday soon.

Weirdly I am not picking up any viruses or keyloggers, have run a fair few progs by now in normal and safe mode. So I have no idea how, when or where.

I just noticed last night I couldnt log in. Got the email from steam this morning to say the email account was changed. Immediately logged a ticket with steam

Yep, but useless if your e-mail account isn't protected. Time to activate two-step verification for your gmail account, methinks.
 
Sucks dude. I hope you get it back.

For myself: Email protected by two-factor auth...steam guard linked to email. So the hackers are welcome to have a shot at my steam a/c.

/tbh I don't know the mygaming crowd well enough to know genders & its too much hassle keeping things straight anyway.
 
Just as a side note [FYI], regularly changing your passwords don't make them any safer and changing them too often can actually make your accounts less secure. So banks and businesses that force to change your password with ridiculous frequency, like every 3 months, are just causes more problems for the sake of appearing as if they are concerned about security.
