I think the giveaways are a bit more fair, gives everyone a chance, rather that just whoever was lucky enough to be online at the time you put it up.

And the other advantage is that it automatically excludes people who already have the item in question.

I actually think it's a better system, and the Steam Group seems to be bustling with peeps wanting in.

That is a cool feature, you just need to sync your account every now and then to keep it up to date.
