Steam game lending system, Family Sharing announced

I have to say, I don't really understand the advantage of family sharing at all in this case. Why not just have multiple PCs with the same login details entered? There really is no benefit to the user. Maybe it's nice for Valve as they can see how many people are actually playing the games, but other than not breaking the ToS, *rolls eyes*, it does nothing that you couldn't do before.

Because now I can share with my brother, who lives 6 hours away, without having to compromise my CC details (not that I actually store it in my steam acc, but I could) and my VAC status and my greenlight votes and my content usage and my achievements and my save games etc. etc.

Seems to me like they are trying to encourage a "family/Group" style steam account set up... Where instead of each person having a Steam account, they all access the same one... Makes me wonder a bit though, they will surely loose on sales here...

Unlikely, seeing as only one person can use the account at a time through SFS.

SFS is based on a very silly model, but the idea of a system that allows you to share your games the way we hoped for was really never nothing more than a pipedream.

I suppose. Good point about the save games. I don't use the Steam Cloud for my saves so I didn't really think about that. Nonetheless, wasn't the basic idea that you share your account in the same house?

Well, I can see from what you have said that it does have its uses, but being able to share individual games would be cooler.

Look at least they trying to make it possible to share games.... opposite route to microsoft....

Where do you find the option AJ?
