Steam hacked: Valve is investigating credit card info theft

I last used a credit card on Steam about 6-7 years ago, so thanks to the 3 year credit card renewal cycle with my bank (unless it's standard, never changed banks before), I should be safe.
 
Sony could learn a thing or 2 here.
Users are notified within 24 hours of the actual breach happening...

That said, I have already notified my bank to keep an extra-tight filter on my Credit Card.

I received no mail from Steam to indicate that there was any issue. Upon logging into Steam, I also see no notification of any issue, not even in the news; all I see there is more crap about Dota2, Team Fortress 2 and other games. First I heard anything about this breach is from the link to this article on MyBB.

My notification was right there as soon as I logged in.
Also received an email to the exact same about 10 minutes later.

Check any one of the pages. It's not showing up anywhere, and that same 'news' gets shown in the steam client. Either one of us is special; people not receiving any notification regarding this or those that are, and considering I see no news of this anywhere that is not the forums page, namely here, I'm thinking you're the special case.

Anyway, the mere fact that I've not received any notification regarding this means that there isn't necessarily reason to compare different companies' approaches regarding this matter, as quite obviously Steam/Valve are not without their faults when it comes to damage control.
 
I didn't get an e-mail but I did get the message when I went to the forums. It's really annoying. Tomorrow is password change day. It's an old password that I've used all over the place so it's maybe a good idea to get new passwords at all these places.

I'm very worried about my credit card though. :(
 
I have not received an email either.

I use a credit card quite frequently. No signs of dodgy deductions/purchases just yet.
 
Maybe only users who stored their credit card information on steam is affected which is why only they received emails.

I myself use Paypal as an extra layer of security before buying from international providers or providers that I don't fully trust. On my Paypal profile, I only have a credit card link have limited funds available and no overdraft facility. So I basically transfer the funds that I require to that credit card before making a purchase so there is no way for me to lose out.

All credit cards are renewed every 3 year (perhaps 4 years at the most)... I think might be determined by Visa / Mastercard.
 
One thing hacking to make a valid point regarding business ethics, or to prove a point to a corporate entity. It's another to hack simply for malicious data retrieval. Taking personal details and credit card information, not cool.

Monitoring the CC's carefully.

Steam is a convenient spot for me to purchase my games, transferring to another account before purchasing on Steam is not ideal, albeit more secure.
 
All, i suggest to be on the SAFE side, change your Steam Password just in case.

Don't worry about them having your CC details, they can't do bugger all if they don't have the 3 digits on the back of the card :)

Same for me, but since both my credit cards are at the same bank, transferring the funds means that the whole purchase process will take 30 seconds longer and the funds are then immediately available for use.

True, although, doesn't Steam save the CVV number too?

I see, I suppose it also puts a damper on those Impulsive buys that I tend to do all too often. Damn specials!
