Steam is taking banning very serious

If Valve is serious, then we shall see in other news: CoD player activity drops by 50% :p

LOL...Very true, but its time, this chit chat calling peoples mothers out stops.
Its getting very serious what people say nowadays which i appreciate. Eg... Twitter.

While I am no fan of the twats in games like CoD and Dota, if Steam has decided to go pretty much Politically Correct Nanny in games that are rated mature, they are way wrong. Dealing with abusive language is a given but what they deem 'inappropriate' is the hallmark of censorship.

Enjoy.

Telling someone that they suck at Dota is also considered abusive. If these are the only comments that you can make, we suggest that you refrain from talking to other users about their skill.

Lol ....... I mean come on.

Where do you draw the line?
Everyone signs the T&C's, however most don't ever read it. In the T&C's there is always info about what you and cant do, people ignore it, and valve let it go for years.

Should Valve now provide a guide on whats offensive in their T&C's? People would still sign it and do what the T&C's tells the person not to do.

Here is a better example, I am sure many people find what JuJu always say's, most the time its offensive and creates fear for some, sometimes it actually drives people to the point where they wanna leave the country.

So you you must believe that he should be able to tell all non African individuals do not belong here, in the same way that user's are allowed to create the same fears?

You've heard me rage before :p thank god for push to talk xD

Unfortunately, it's the idiots right to say what he wants. Like I said, hatespeech and really abusive shit needs to be dealt with but you skirt a very dangerous line when you decide to take away freedom of speech. Even more so if someone has paid for something and it's stated that it will be taken away.

It's petty and sets standards to let them do as they wish as they see fit

you have to be politically correct about it Mephisto.

"Dear Sir, your current skill level is not adequate for the current activity you are engaging in, please refrain from it and go try something more suited to your skill level."

Well I have been playing CS: GO on SA servers the past few days and what I have noticed is there are a lot of pretty rude people. They probably aren't like that in real life but there are regular utterances of:

'faggot'
'kak'
'poes'

and various other vulgarities.

Yeah it's a mature game etc but do people really have to use that type of language?

Of particular interest to me is why people say 'faggot' in computer games so often. I hardly EVER hear that in 'real life', so why do they say it in computer games?

Just yesterday there was someone playing and talking harmless crap and another guy started going on about how his voice sounded gay and like a 'little faggot'. It's pretty disgusting and in particular because he was using sexual orientation as an insult; something I hear A LOT.

Uhh...i use fag all the time. Before you go hating on me you might want to watch the south park episode that talks about it (S13E12) to see what I'm referring to and how i use it. Also use it with banter with friends irl. Its like the australians calling their friends the "c" word.

EDIT: post was just a reply to the post saying they never hear it in real life, and just wanted to say i do hear it often hehe. I dont make it a policy to go calling random gamers faggots, and im usually pretty friendly and agree 100% on getting rid of the tweens that need more hugs from mommy before they join online games.

The problem you sit with is that not everyone has watched South Park to understand the context in which you use the word.

With reference to South Park, and to clarify, you are gay yourself then?

I dont quite follow, can you elaborate on that? Also, could you say if you've SEEN the episode in question, as im not quite sure your answer makes sense if you have :)

I'm actually referring to an older episode called "It hits the fan". But yes, I have actually seen the episode you are talking about.

Look I'm all for freedom of speech and all, but this is a game not a political platform.

"Dear Sir, your current skill level is not adequate for the current activity you are engaging in, please refrain from it and go try something more suited to your skill level."

Or quote zoidberg: "Your aim/warding/whatever activity is bad and you should feel bad" :D

Tip to screaming gamers:
If you want to complain about something, at least show that your vocabulary has more than two words :p

Ah my bad. I was thinking there was that difference to fag and gay, you can be a gay fag for example. But no, I dont say it often enough to be one :D
