Steam issues relating to Counter-Strike : Source

Hello everyone!

Hopefully one of you will be able to help me. I copied my friend's steam folder so that I do not have to download all the games that I purchased. It worked great but extra games appeared, like Portal. It is pre-loaded but I have to purchase it. Anyway,I decided to delete portal by right clicking on it and deleting local game content.

When I logged back onto Steam I had to download Counter-Strike : Source all over again. I tried to do a System Restore but it did not work. My last option is to restore the Steam folder from where I copied my backups. I copied the Steam folder from a Flash Drive to my desktop, copied it from there to my Steam folder in Program Files and then I deleted the Steam folder on my desktop (Not needed anymore).

Is it possible to recover this deleted folder from my Desktop?

normally you should try this:

1) uninstall steam and make sure it's gone
2) ask your friend to backup (rather than just copy) the games you want
3) re-install steam
4) restore them via steam

only reason to just copy the files over is if you want to move the folder:

1) Then you rename your current steam folder
2) download steam and install it to the target drive you want
3) finally copy over the apps folder to the new location of steam, obviously keeping the folder structure : steamapps -> steamaps.

each initial time you open a game it would reinstall itself, but that's less painful than downloading it.

reason why CS:S would download is that you've managed to also remove some vital part of source alongside portal

I think the real problem here is that Counter-Strike is a shit game. Hope that helps. :)
after playing rainbow 6 vegas 2, most FPS is. I find it hard to get into this arcade shoot-em-ups and take it serious without having a lolz

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. ;)

Thank you,Prophet. I deleted my Steam completely, manually deleted registry entries, all I have to do now is install Counter-Strike : Source via Steam and restore it?

Well I take it that you either have the disc for CS:S or the backup-ed version from your friend. Then all you need to do is the following:

1) make sure steam is gone
2) get latest steam install from the internet if you don't have it
3) install steam

Then :
A) from back and restore then restore the backed-up version
B) insert install disc and install.

If steam for some reason doesn't use the disc/restore then just delete local files and retry it. It does happen from time to time.

I am going away for two days so I am just going to let it download. I actually have one of those 39 GB Vouchers from Incredible Connection. :p
