Steam machine benchmarked!

Thats quite a fail for the Bolt II... 10k price difference for very little difference...

It does say it was benched on windows though so maybe the machines will perform better in the Steam OS?

You cant really benchmark something which has no set hardware.Steam box's will all be of varying power considering what choice you make.

I am wondering if the Steam Machine is worth it while you can buy a PC and just duel boot with Steam OS?

Not worth all that money no, you can build a PC for a bit cheaper and get yourself steamOS. The steam machine is just convenient because it's compact

You can even build yourself a compact machine, most places have started advertising smaller cases, I think in anticipation of people wanting their own steam machines...

Yip, an ITX motherboard, can build a small mean machine. But they are quite expensive compared to the normal Atx boards. I guess there's a price to pay for convenience

Yeah. I will rather build a system up. They are trying to be a PC/Console and I cannot see how that will work, even with their controller. PC users want the keyboard/mouse and I cannot see how PC gamers will migrate to a controller.

There's a very good reason for a Steam Machine. It's to challenge the consoles. See, I currently have an XBox 360 and a PC. I game on both. The 360 for when I just want to lie on the couch and relax and the PC for games that you can only really play on a PC.

Now the PS4 and XBox One are not only expensive but so are their games. Steam on the other hand often have games for very very cheap. Also Steam is a much more open platform and looks to be even more open in the future so it will have a shitload of games.

I want to eventually replace my 360 with a Steam Machine and use it for my console gaming and I think lots of people will want to do the same.

Exactly my thoughts and I'm certain there are people in the console market keen on the exact same thing but for opposite reasons, finally getting a gaming PC that is decent and doesn't break the bank.

This is very true. It would be akin to something like: "Tonight on Top Gear we will be comparing two classic cars. The VW Beetle vs the Lamborghini Diablo..." and because the benchmark was done on Windows "...by seeing which performs better off-road!"
