Steam pricing vs. local retail pricing

Even if I got uncapped, I think I'd still like buying the games the old- fashioned way. I like the sight of my shelves filling up with games, I like lending my games to friends, I like the manuals they come with, I like the box and the box art... Maybe I'm just old - fashioned? :P
 
^ I was like that before but after seeing what hording does I have become less like that :)
Scratch Lending to friends since more and more games are becoming DRM locked.

I hear you.

Here's what I'd like to ask, I think its still thread related. Do you prefer going in store to purchase the game, or would you prefer purchasing from an eTailer?

edit: I also think that some including myself may prefer to see what it is you've spent your money on and have something to show for it, even if not in use. So, in a way, theres an added value to buying instore or through an eTailer. In digital format, its not quite the same... or is it? Did I just go off topic, flip, i did it again.

pffft. i loved the boxed till i moved. ditched 98% of them and kept about 3 of them. i had soooooooo many boxes it's not even funny. it's to drool over the box, the art and so on, but for how long ?. or do you have religious drool days where you drool-a-lot for each one ? :D

though i still buy "real life" games here and there, but you do get pdf so not much use keeping that 10-15 pager of very short no-knowing that you get these days. the days of proper manuals are long over since the days of diablo/buldar's gate/nwn/initial wow.

guess i'm not that sentimental about games any more, grow up ? only thing i do have a preference over is books. please gief in paper format...
 
I wish I could get more games off Steam.

I love the idea despite my preference for boxed copies. The sheer convenience is a Win! for me. Perhaps one day if I can EVER get ADSL again I will abuse it, but until then I will primarily rely on ye old boxed copies. 3G needs to get cheaper.

Not my problem. The cousin needs to take care of him/herself. I will take care of myself by going with the store that offers the best value for me. I don't really who gets the money be it usa,sa,uk or whoever.

Steam/other digital distributors are becoming even more attractive option for me. This is due to all the delays we had since the end of last year with getting games into the country on their release day.

Whether these issues are the fault of the local retailers/distributors or whoever is rather irrelevant. Fact of the matter is with the digital distributor you are nearly always guaranteed to receive your game on launch day unless you have issues with your internet connection. With that being the case they are offering even better value for money imho.
 
I buy pretty much everything off Steam at the moment. I still buy games through retail, but that's pretty much only for very nice collectors editions.
