The public must refrain from being "armchair critics" when it comes to how the police deal with protests, Gauteng acting commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba said on Wednesday.

"The South African public must realise what is confronting the members [police] on a daily situation while dealing with these issues of protest marches and demonstrations," he told reporters in Johannesburg.

If we are not armchair critics how is the public supposed to get the police to lift their lazy asses and start doing something, i've had it happen 2 years ago where a guy skipped a red robot and hit my dads bakkie and drove off we went to the police station to lay a charge cos we had the Reg number and the guy behind the counter said he can't help us because we took the law into own hands by taking down the registration

We should have called the police and they would have taken it further. i mean wtf no wonder people are taking law into their own hands because the police wont do anything it's more important to sleep.

I've had security guards do better work than the police. We might be armchair critics but we see the problem and they don't want too. And start training cops better so that they don't just start shooting and killing people wrongfully and maybe think of putting in a training regiment that has our cops looking in better shape because none of those in that picture will be able to run in a smash and grab or purse snatcher for that matter
 
^ Bravo dude.

you're 100% on the ball with the security companies. The vast majority of them really do want to do their jobs, that's why they are efficient in it. The cops nowadays just want a paycheck.

I thought taking the registration number was what you were supposed to do? That's a fail.

I think actually going to court for something like that takes so much work, the police probably just don't bother with it. Which is obviously wrong.

Yeah i actually got into an argument with the cop about it and told him so if someone died in the hit and run and i didn't do anything it would be my fault again, and being short tempered as i am my dad said to back down when he threatened to put me in jail which i dared him to do but he was too lazy to get out of his chair. (Yes i have no respect for any government Authority and i have been locked up for slapping a traffic cop out from under his helmet)

The thing is most of them think because they wear a badge they can hide behind it and do as they please and everyone will just let it go but it doesn't work like that i think our Police System should get a complete restructure from top to bottom.

:eek: You are one brave person! And I agree, the police in this country needs a serious improvement.
 
I'll stop policing from my chair when they get rid of the guy with a dagga plant taller than the his wall. Seriously you can see it from the road and all.

I especially don't have much respect for traffic cops. I've taken a lot of sh*t from them in the past. They're probably just bitter.

Not so much brave as just short tempered and i'm not one to back down unless you have a gun and more than a meter away from me 13 years of Hapkido has taught me many things.

Haha, I must remember not to anger you then! :p But still, sometimes you've got to know when to back down, but I applaud you for standing up to the incompetent police.

Well since i had my 2 sons i' have calmed down a lot i actually used to suffer from road rage :(
 
Let's also be fair and acknowledge that there are also many SAPS members who are trying to do a good job and many that do.
