I know the feeling - I have it right now

Kwaai's suggestion of Tomb Raider is a good one (it really is one of the best I've played in a long time - and I'm a joyless, miserable old coot :p), a game that I picked up on a whim (not even being a huge RPG fan) and have spend about 45 hours on is Kingdoms of Amalur.

Do you have a long list of unplayed games?
Do you have a list of games you wanted to finish?
What was your last list of currently played games?

I suggest you find something open ended and just play. I hadn't really played anything much a while ago, then I just started playing Sleeping Dogs. Not particularly the main missions, just the side missions every now and then a main mission and so forth. Just driving around aimlessly. Eventually I finished the game and I had had fun in the meantime.

Maybe try play in short bursts, 20-30 minutes and then watch something and then play again. Sometimes I feel trying to force 'playing' just ends up being not fun.

Finished Alan Wake American Nightmare last week mainly because it was short. Maybe try find some short game and try finish that to get the 'spark'back.

Dude, I so get you on this. You know how many time I move in front of my PC, only to stare at my Steam library without getting the feeling of playing anything. I end up watching a movie or series or something.

So what I've found has helped me is really going to the roots of my gaming heritage. I usually go running to something like Forza, Unreal Tournament and sports games. It funny how these games awakens the inner gamer in me.

This is happening to me -_-. Some of the games i used to love jamming just aren't doing it for me anymore :( Re-installed Bastion again. hoping that refreshes my gamer's soul ;)

Think you just helped me out of my rut....... :D

I bought the Humble Origin Bundle and played Dead Space 3 in co-op with Dentar.

Was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it. Well, until the atmosphere went from "AAAAAAH!!! MONSTER! DIE! DIE! DIE!" to "oh... good... more monsters... pewpewpew."

But it's a lot of fun, so I'd highly recommend that.

To just echo what Kwaai said, I'd suggest the new Tomb Raider, if you haven't played it yet (great re-imagining of the series).

No, co op doesn't count. :p

Can agree on the new Tomb Raider. I finished that also.

What did the trick... UT? Sports games? I myself is on a strong UT2004 killing spree and later I'll continue dominating in the PGA 2013 tour on Xbox :D

But glad I could help

UT!

And how I forgot my guilty pleasure....Top Spin 4 ! (stop laughing.......you guys in the corner there)

Hotline Miami, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3 and Dishonored are some games I recently played that I really enjoyed a lot. If you like multiplayer, also give Chivalry: Medieval Warfare a shot.

I have found that when Im in a rut like that, I need a decent storyline with relatively linear pick up and play gameplay to get me back into it! Like I thoroughly enjoyed Dishonored, picking up a game like Sleeping Dogs or Skyrim just feels to aimless and intimidating. Always nice to reignite the "I clocked the game" feeling to reignite the inner gamer :)

Don't play for the sake of playing. If you're listless for games at the moment then pick up another hobby? Try learn a skill that you've been meaning to but never found the time? Chances are once you get into something else you'll realize it means actual work and then quickly jump back into gaming "whistling:

What Ser Bunnylot says is true. Don't play for the sake of playing. I did that earlier this year and at one point I just realised I wasn't playing because I felt like playing games, but because I somehow felt obliged to play games because it was my hobby for years. Once I realised that, I stopped playing games for a few months and then one day I just got in the mood for playing again so I started again.

Don't worry if you don't feel like playing games. There's nothing wrong with not being in the mood for playing games. We all get a bit burned out from time to time and it's better that you rather not make it worse by forcing yourself to do something you don't feel like.

Unreal tournament sounds great :)

I do want to play a game just need to find something to get me excited . and theres nothing new coming out soon
I do agree I think something with a good story to get me back into it

I have found that the last couple of games I've started were okay, not great. But once I pushed though and got used to the controls I really started enjoying them. Sometimes you just need to give yourself time.

I often go through periods where I hardly play any games. For a few weeks or months I play games, then there's a few weeks or months where I'm off games. During those periods I usually watch a lot of TV, DVDs and so on. I try to only play games on the weekend, so it's something to look forward to.
