Sunset Overdrive - Your thoughts ?

just started playing it last night. I really really want to like this game. I LOVE Insomniac games and i absolutely LOVED Crackdown. So this should be my cup of tea. and yet...i'm just not clicking :( i am finding the whole "rail grinding" mechanic somewhat frustrating and fiddly. Really hoping that its just a matter of getting comfy with it.

have any of you played it and what are your thoughts ?

I own it, along with DieGrootHammer and I can say that I really enjoy it. I don't think I'll ever be trading it in. It's one of those titles that you need to spend a little time with at first to actually get into it. But I find it's more of a casual pick up and play title. It's just crazy fun.

I share BeoTeK thoughts on this game. It's stupid fun, nothing more. you do need to spend some time getting used to the controls a bit, but once you get used to it, and you string together an awesome killing combo, you'll see why this game is so much fun. It's wacky, crazy, very self-aware and funny at times.

totally agree on the "fun and zany and self aware" points. which is why i WANT to love it. but the damned rail grinding mechanic is just not clicking for me. I want to be able to stand still and shoot enemies. instead, i feel like i'm fighting the controls/game to get into position. i did not play too much, but got frustrated during the "AMPTASTIC" mission where you need to defend the base.

I love it, it's different and has humor and unique characters.
Things you won't find in other games, in a way it reminded me of Saints Row 4(love that game).

I don't think I'll part with it either.

Ok the movement mechanics are slowly starting to click now :) I reckon another few sessions and I will be hitting style level 4 in no time.

Really fun game! I know some reviewers complained about its style of humour and self awareness, but I'm digging it

Now on special and for Gold members it's +/- R300 or R360 (can't recall exactly) and works out +/- R330 on the US Store using today's exchange rate. I was given the opportunity by XBL to "try it" before paying. Not a Demo as far as I can tell. First time I saw the "try it" option.

The "Try It" option gives you the full game that you can play for 3 hours before you will need to buy it. I think this is a great idea, as you will be able to assess whether or not you like the game within the time frame. I would recommend getting it at this promotional price.

Do you think this will be making its way to PC at some stage? Given that so many of the Xbone's other exclusives have made the jump

With the whole Windows 10 parity coming in the next couple of months, I wouldn't be surprised if they do port the game over the PC. I do think that the game did reasonably well on the console, but it will get much more love if it goes to PC's as well. E3 will probably give us more info on that

I think it's entirely possible things like this will be announced at E3 given all the integration that Xbox and Wndows 10 are starting to incorporate.

I can see the other way around as well. As the XO's OS gets closer to W10, porting PC games to XBO might become almost regulation. A couple of tweaks here and there?

Possibly, but most porting is due to hardware configurations than just normal OS. Xbox has always run off of a form of Windows Kernal, which is why Windows 10 would be able to bridge the gap so neatly between the Xbox One and the PC. But why not the 360 you may ask? Well, that is where hardware comes in. You see, the set of instructions that the Xbox One's hardware uses is more in-line with conventional PC's, where the 360's architecture was much different from that of PC architecture.

So, Windows 10 will make the software platform much easier to work with from a developer's perspective, but they will still have to deal with the hardware differences.

Just bought it for R380 odd. Would have been cheaper by R50 if bought from US Store, but i was weary that I might have to download again as I had it on 3g trial on the SA store. Looks fantastic and the game play seems better than last night, but it will still take some getting used to.

Yes, the controls are not the easiest to get used to, but once you are familiar with them, the game plays extremely well and is a lot of fun. Don't expect any great story though. I ended up abandoning the main quests and run ran around the city, jumping off cars and killing OD.

the first few hours of the game are certainly the toughest, as you struggle to get comfortable with the awkward movement mechanic. but after a while, it just "clicks" and becomes a brilliant game!

Just a heads-up to everyone with this game: you should've received a message from Fizzie that reads like this:

Don't be alarmed, it's not span or something. It's actually Microsoft giving up all some DLC for free. Quite neat. It's a bunch of weapons and other stuff.
