Superhero games that seem to have got it right

Cool list and spot on.

I feel however that Batman AA was a better game experience than Batman AC.

Pity that Iron Man and Super man games fail that hard, one would think it would be easier to do?

Batman AA had the better story and location, but AC's revamped combat system was slightly better. Given the choice I'd rather replay AA, though.

I agree with the Arkham games, inFAMOUS and the Wolverine movie tie-in, but Shattered Dimensions? Wow, what a load of trash that game was. The previous game (web of shadows) was superior in almost every aspect apart from visuals.

It doesn't take away that it's a great game, but the scenarios in Arkham Asylum just got tedious with extremely similar rooms and locations, allowing you to implement the same tactics. AC added a lot of variety in that department, where you had to use the surroundings and stealth much more effectively.

@Strifehart yeah man, I enjoyed Web of Shadows a great amount, despite it's shortcomings. But I think that even though Shattered Dimensions wasn't a large free-flowing open-world Spidey title, it nailed the 'feel' and comic-book roots of Spider-man excellently. Too bad Edge of Time didn't expand on it.

I'm yet to play Batman AC but AA was such a big surprise. It was honestly the first superhero game that I have played that actually felt like a real game. I was in shock when I played it the first time. I never expected it to be that good. I started playing at 12am one weekend and only ended up stopping at 7am that morning. So hooked :D

i still rate the original spiderman game on the ps1 alot higher that shattered dimensions and web of shadows. x2 wolverine's revenge was also a pretty damn good game on the ps2 and marvel ultimate alliance was orsome imo.

I think it's a case of the repetition in gameplay and the fact that the 4 different Spidey's (who in the end didn't all play all that different) didn't really add anything interesting to the gameplay mechanics. The terrible corridor to corridor crawling structure of Shattered Dimensions made me stop playing the game and promptly trading it.

I am quite keen to try out the Spider-Man titles of late...I enjoyed the first two on PSOne and Spider-Man 3 on PS2 also kept me busy for a while. I see that they are cheap enough now to get my hands on them.

Although, Marvel Ultimate Alliance was also not the worst game that I have ever played...

I think what made it stand out despite all of that, were also some really interesting and cool boss battles - like the 2099 Hobgoblin, Amazing Rhino battle etc. Not the best superhero game, but one that's heaps above the rest.

@Dohc-WP ya man, the original PSX Spider-man game was phenomenal. I remember the final Carnage/Doc Octopus hybrid fight at the end - amazing.

A re-release of that on PSN would be mindblowing.

Never had an idea that X-Men Origins: Wolverine was any good. Since some past experiences, I steer clear of games based on movies so after seeing the game's name, I never gave the game a second look. I might just have to go out and get it now.

It plays a lot like God Of War, without being a total rip-off.

@ViperGIT don't worry, I'm sure many people wrote it off from the start given that it's a 'tie-in movie game', but it really is a good game. As @Strifehart said, plays like God of War, but maintains it's identity. A lot of comic-book fan service too - you can unlock Wolverine's old yellow and black and spandex and a few other cool things. Very cool (and gory) game. May pick it up for another play-through after all this talk :p
