The list was compiled mostly through community nominations with the MyG staff filling in a few glaring omissions.
Edit: I see Kevin updated the first post to mention this.
 
I went with Half Life 2. My criteria was simple: Which game have I played more than once AND would I not mind playing again right now?!

Ok so some games weren't nominated. Some games definitely should not be on that list. Some notable games missing from that list:

Heroes of Might & Magic III
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Sacrifice

So difficult choice between: Diablo II; StarCraft; Final Fantasy VII; Grim Fandango; WarCraft III :confused:

I went with Baldur's Gate 2

The best game of all time, however, is:

hey guys. the definition of "best" ... is it what you have played most? what game brought your the most joy? thrill? addiction? fun? laughter?
for me it's world of Warcraft ... no other game had me as addicted and no other game made me laugh as much (well the peeps online made me laugh). if mass effect was there I would have chosen it over Diablo 2. even though I switched on an old pc a month ago and found d2 still installed. rolled a Druid and ran out laughing at the gfx... 3 hours later I went and logged my monk on d3 and played 6 hours straight.

Starcraft was awesome as well. I think we need to split these games into categories:

arcade: mortal combat
pc: single player - mass effect
pc LAN: quake 2
pc online: wow with d3 close behind (new drop rates and adventure mode rock)

rpg needs it's own category. baldurs gate and neverwinter hordes of the underdark ... deekin slaughtered me with laughter.

dungeon siege 2, Diablo 2 were great mouse clickers.

another rpg is biowares martial arts rpg... jade empire was amazing.

car/racing: test drive the original with the countache, f40! then need for speed 2.

gawd I have played waaaay too many games in my life. let me not get started on football manager and sim city !!
