Swearing in Battlefield 3

So, I purchase a game that has swearing in it. I then proceed to play it on one of the few local servers. I get dropped from a dizzy height due to swearing. Now I am confused. What is the purpose of no swearing on a server for a game that a) has an 18+ age restriction and b) has swearing in the game already?

I understand that the rules are in place to justify banning people who cause trouble via flaming other people, but why am I being punished for swearing in a game that already has swearing in it? The language is harsh. Harsher than anything I say.

Is it because there are underage kids and women playing as well? Firstly, the game itself is already swearing. Secondly, if the underage kids are being allowed to play, why is that my problem? I don't swear at people. I just swear in general. Most people do. Step on lego and some colourful words come out. Lego is evil.

But that's besides the point. All I'm asking is that the rule be reconsidered for BF3 since the game already contains that which you are trying to prevent.

I think its more aimed at swearing at other ppl in the game, but because the filter cant differentiate the difference between swearing at people and just cursing your bad luck, its bans any swearing.

I think its right to ban for swearing, its one thing to play a game with swearing in the single player game, or while under attack, but its another thing when you go gaga calling people names or calling someones mother this and that. Players tend to get quite heated in a game. Just keeps things kind of civil, and believe me, there are some ppl with no decency at all.

Are we somehow more sensitive to swearing than men?

As for your topic, it depends on the server, and who owns it. If it's a third party (i.e. not the developers), the owner of the server typically has the right to set whatever rules they want, unless otherwise specified by the ToS.

Also keep in mind that the game's content is controlled, the things that come out of people's mouths (or their keyboards) are not. The rules tend to cover things like racism and discrimination as well.

Swearing in front of a woman appears less respectful. Men are typically more rough and aren't too bothered about swearing in front of (or towards) one another, but from most cases (instances) I've come across, swearing around women is less tolerated (socially acceptable).

Are you doing the bracket thing again? (please don't)

I have a female gaming friend, she swears more than the guys online. It's something normal these days and people should not take offence

The swearing filters are there to encourage you to exercise common decency around strangers. It doesn't have anything to do with women playing (that comment really made me laugh) or children that might hear it.

whisp is that you :O

in game swearing is one thing, but when players swear each other thats different, it becomes bad sportsmanship also it can be considered bullying and hate speech so they prefer to ban swearing altogether.

but one server when i was complaining about my own lousy nade toss, kicked me for saying toss. LOL
it would be better if the server just didnt post your comment rather than kick ya.

Most servers dont kick for typing one bad word. I've had times where out of frustration I just typed a random rude word, got a warning and went on killing.

Is this rule still the same now?

The admin said earlier that we shouldn't swear at each other (directed) but he didn't mind otherwise. Then he goes ahead and bans for swearing at the game, not at anyone - AND with no warning!

Can we have a consistent rule or we all gonna be confused?
