Techland apologises for “feminist whore” Dead Island code

Seriously, that's just funny, what was the coder thinking (or not thinking?).

Oh, and...

the company accidentally released a console build version of Dead Island onto Steam

I'm quite sure it was the dev build that was accidentally released on Steam and not the console one as the article suggests. :/

This is an over-reach.

First of all, if you're digging through millions of lines of game-code just to FIND something to take offense over - you really are the cesspool of our current age. I mean really... there's not enough else to bitch about already?

Second - isn't digging through game-code technically against the EULA/ToS/etc? I'm pretty sure it's generally none of your goddamn business what goes on inside a game's code unless it's been released as open-source/etc.

So guess what...
I don't give a flying rat's ass what a developer calls or labels ANYTHING inside the code.
As long as it stays inside the code...

= I'll just keep my head buried in the sand.

Im not sure about this game, but do you get like the consol (I.E. like valve games) where it displays what the game is loading?

Lolololol, when I code I name my vars a variety of things. From pew to curse words if its doesn't work ect depending on my mood. Code can likes to be what it wants. Its not intended for a wider audience that's why you get the UI. At least is wasn't get back into the kitchen :P By making a big fuzz out of these kinds of stuff your empowering people to be sexist. If no one gave a fook it wouldn't be a issue.

Are you serious?

He is, developers can call code whatever they want. Our SQL guy generally puts WTF as an error code when the code doesnt do what its supposed to.

The funny part is when i have to go into the code and read these things.

No sweat with developers coding how they want to. The other comments are more concerning.

normal people buy games to actually play them
weirdos buy games to read through code line by line :wtf: I see cooode...(insert blank stare)

I had to disable comments on the front page due to misogynistic troll infestation.

Wish I could say I'm surprised--I could do with a good drama, unfortunately that's the kind of drama I'm desensitised to :p

I think a lot of people don't see the severity of misogynistic commentary, however obscure and lack the cognitive ability to correlate that severity with something like the recently publicised drama of Darren Scott's racial slur. Then again, I don't think a lot of people comprehend the severity of hate-speech in general. If it doesn't directly affect you, it doesn't matter, right?

There's a time and place for jokes, stereotyping and even black humour but if it has no tact, if it is tasteless and nothing more than outright offensive, it's just not funny--it's symptom of a sick society.

Hmmm, I pity the guys who take over your code in the future who have to maintain such crap code!! Unless its all for personal use of course...in which case, good on ya :)

Its called find and replace ;)

And I really don't why people get easily offended. Grew up as the youngest of 3 brothers, maybe all the years of torture made immune to such things. Fact still remains, you control your own emotions and feelings so why should something as trivial as name calling or remarks about gender/race bother you?
