Tekken movie prequel title and casting revealed

The Tekken movie prequel first announced back in 2011 will be called Tekken - A Man Called X and star Kane Kosugi.

The news comes courtesy of Cinema Today (via Kotaku), which reports that this will be Kosugi's first starring role in a Hollywood film. Up until now he's best known for his appearances in Godzilla: Final Wars and the regrettable DOA: Dead or Alive.

Seeing as the first live-action Tekken movie was such a disaster, you'd be forgiven for feeling miserable that another one's in the works. There's a slight chance that this one may be better though, as the director is Prachya Pinkaew, the gentleman responsible for Ong-Bak and The Protector.

If he manages to make another adrenaline-fuelled martial arts-fest, there's always a chance the creators of the Tekken franchise won't have to apologise for this one!

Am I the only who thinks the Tekken movie really wasn't that bad? As far as videogame movies go, it was one of the better ones. I know that's not a very high bar, but it's saying something when the majority of videogame movies are so bad they're unwatchable.

I wasn't sold on the first one. It wasn't.. "bad", but it wasn't good either. Maybe this one will be better.

The Tekken movie is making the rounds on DSTV at the moment. You can spot it on MagicWorld. I watched it halfway the other night and couldn't take it any more. One of the worst movies that have been made about a video game so far.

And now they want another go?

Im with the majority here... I really struggled to get through the first one... Haven't seen a CGI one though?

Why is it that 90% of game to movie's they always have the WORST cast ever! Its like they cant get any decent actors!

Even if they get good actors, they bungle it somehow. Look at what happened with Tomb Raider. Angelina Jolie, Jon Voight, Daniel Craig...and it wasn't really any good.

Actually there was the CGI movie and an Anime focusing more on Jun and Kazuya...needless to say...don't bother watching it...it's whorable.

Mortal Kombat movies were better than the Tekken movies...

This is a bold statement... Some of those mortal kombat "movies" are like student films...
At least the special effects in Tekken looked special...

I hope this new movie of Teken will be better than the last one! I don't know why they can't make a good movie because the game is excellent but the movie sucks! I just don't understand!

The fight scene may be well choreographed, but they still need someone who can do the moves!
(I don't mean stunt doubles) :p

Side note: Ong-bak was legendary! Highly recommended.

Even more on the side:
Pit Tony Jaa against the dude from the Raid Redemption, and I'm sold!

Looks like the movie isn't happening after all:

We first brought you the news a while ago that a new Tekken movie is in the works, and would be titled "A Man Called X". There were two possible reactions to the news: you either cried from uninhibited joy, or cried because "oh no, they're back to destroy more childhood memories".

Either way, it's irrelevant because the movie is totally not going to happen.

The actor who first made the announcement (and was allegedly set to star in the film), Kane Kosugi, has since retracted his statement. Kosugi took to his personal site to apologise for the announcement, and revealed that he'll be working on a film called "Agent X" instead. Meanwhile, over on Twitter, the Tekken team has officially denied knowing anything about the project.
