Telkom 40Mbps, 20Mbps DSL launching

Jeremy what will the pricing be, have they published it yet?

What are the upload speeds?

Where will consumers be able to get VDSL routers (and at what price)?

No consumer pricing published.

Not confirmed yet.

Routers will be readily available once the service launches. We don't have pricing info yet.

Thanks for the questions. I'm going to look in to getting them answered.

In addition to the above, has Telkom mentioned how soon they will begin rolling this our further than the few areas?

Some info from following the articles and user feedback on the trial.

There was an article not long ago detailing some info that may help give us an idea although i still await Jeremy's feedback :O

From the Vox article aggressive 20mbps and 40mbps vdsl data prices emerge dated - 17th February 2013 - Note these run only on the VDSL IPC (think that is the right word) and will not be available to us ADSL 10Mbps< users.

Also have to add the analogue rental and when you compare it to existing services, actually seems impressive eh.

The following large ADSL data bundles are being planned by Vox Telecom:

50GB for R250.00
75GB for R371.25
100GB for R490.00
150GB for R727.25
200GB for R960.00
250GB for R1,187.50
300GB for R1,410.00
400GB for R1,860.00
500GB for R2,300.00

In the thread, a VOX rep confirmed it only works for VDSL line speeds.

Another article published much earlier gives us an indication on rental.

Telkom 20mbps and 40mbps vdsl prices and launch details dated - 06th January 2013
These prices are very close to Telkom’s wholesale rate for VDSL access only, and therefore gives a good indication of what consumers can expect from other ISPs.

20Mbps access with 5GB of data – R479
40Mbps access with 5GB of data – R649

An installation charge of R424 will be charged where a Telkom technician is dispatched on a self-install provisioning incident.

What are the upload speeds?

3Mbps confirmed (trial users reported ) will be on these but if i were to guess, upto 16Mbps will be offered on the 40Mbps package.

Just looking back at previous upload speeds may help too

384 / 128
512 / 256
1Mbps / 640 (actually 512 (50KB/s)
2Mbps / 640 (same as above with slight overhead) If you on a 10MB line however, you get 1Mbps on any Ti account but cannot confirm other iSPs. eg. 10MB ADSL Line / 2MB uncapped will give you 2MB down and 1MB up (100KB/s). ssshhh ;-)
4/6/8/10Mbps / 1019 (may vary depending on exchange backhaul equipment)

Feel free to correct above speeds as i just took it from memory :P

You can look for the model the trial users got PACE 921vnx but i think the usual Telkom Direct Stores will have it and the usual suspects who partner with Telkom Internet that bundle their internet with contracts. Incredible?

One user who checked online said one router costed R1,700 O_O so lets hope the one from Telkom is way cheaper.

For some user feedback, you can see this post, this one

Apologies if you guys already know all this, this is here for anyone who may have missed the info :).
