Hi!

Has anyone been having sync issues in the JHB area? Im on a 10mb line and cap with telkom/

I dont have a spare router to check if its my own router dying.

I am able to play dota and games but then randomly for 5mins i will lose sync constantly and then it will work.

Was just wondering if anyone else has the same issue.

Thanks:)

I had similar issues before, but first:

Do you have line noise? If you listen to the dialtone, do you hear static/noise? If so, then telkom needs to fix the interference on your line

Here's the thing dude, it could be anything in a mighty bag of possible problems..

It could be that your local DSLAM has software/hardware issues.

Your exchange could be congested and/or have faulty hardware.

It could be your modem, although this one is a bit more unlikely if it's only an intermittent problem.

Your line could be too far from the exchange to maintain a stable synchronization.

Telkom might have an outage somewhere affecting your connection.

And as some have mentioned it might be a POTS filter, but also unlikely if it's an intermittent problem.

If it's a constant problem, then you'll have to start looking at hardware as the DSL port on your router is an analog port that attempts a connection as soon as it detects a voltage. So it could be your router's port, your router itself or maybe a faulty RJ en in an extremely unlikely case, a faulty telephone cable (local cable running from your router to the telephone jack.). It might even be the jack itself.

Remember that your DSL connection is pretty much a circuit all the way from your router to the exchange, so it's best to first isolate the problem to the correct segment of the network. I.e, try figure out where the problem is coming from first, locally. Ideally it would be great if you could borrow a buddy's router to try and establish whether your modem is giving up on life.

Make your decision on where to start looking based on whether it is an intermittent problem or one that's constantly occurring.

Just shout if there's anything there that's not clear :D

If you having problems phone telkom and ask them to rest your ports on there side and also for them to do a loopx test on there loopx care system, it normally brings up the problem and shows where.

I have had problems with telkom like super slow internet at night and im on a 2mb uncapped, it goes slower than a 384kb line. I do a speed test and it gets 0.20mb/s, cant even google its so slow, how am I ment to game online, Im in Port Elizabeth, phoned telkom sooo many times.

Which ISP though? That problem could be related to either your ISP or Telkom.

I find from time to time, my ADSL gets crazy slow, and pretty much stops working, restarting the router sorts it out though. I've been wondering if it's my router that's the problem, or my ISP throttling me or something...

we had the same issue with our line and we had a 4mb line. its a problem at your exchange that the technicians need to fix. i will find out from my bf exactly what the issue was with ours. we used twitter to get our issue resolved as dealing with the call centre became an issue as they keep having you do the basic things that you already know are not gonna work and then they will escalate the issue and get another technician to call you blah blah blah.

Thanks for the help. Look forward to hearing what the issue is.

I tried toget my friends mom who works at telkom for them to move my exchange but for some reason they cant.
