Telkom is getting ready to upgrade its 512Kbps ADSL customers to 1Mbps in the near future
Telkom is looking increasingly ancient in the South African market with high ADSL pricing and relatively slow speeds on the low end.
While Vodacom, Cell C and MTN are rolling out 42Mbps HSPA+ networks across the country, many of Telkom’s ADSL subscribers have to be content with speeds of 384Kbps and 512Kbps.
MyBroadband quizzed new Telkom CEO Pinky Moholi about their ADSL prices in March, and she indicated that instead of dropping the price of ADSL in the country, they would rather looking at adding more value to subscribers like increasing broadband speeds and increasing data bundles.
At the time Moholi said that Telkom is looking at enhancing their DSL512 service, and information has now emerged that the company is looking at bumping up 512Kbps ADSL speeds to 1Mbps.
It is understood that while the speeds on Telkom's mid-level ADSL package will be doubled, the old pricing will remain.
Telkom spokesperson Pynee Chetty confirmed that Telkom is planning to upgrade DSL512Mbps to 1Mbps, but said that the company’s top executives still have to sign off the upgrades.
finally! only took them like fucking ages...
and yet it's gonna take a few ages more
better than nothing though
