Terraria pricing blunder explained

Got it for $2.50. I honestly wouldn't even have considered it if it was at $5 (didn't like the look of it at all and you couldn't really go wrong with R18).

Still not sure how I feel about it. "Gripping" is one word that comes to mind as an antonym. At least it's not bad just not... special.

I was one of the lucky ones :) when I saw it at 75% off I snapped it up to see why it's so popular. Also not too sure about it yet - took me a while to figure things out (although it did keep me playing till quite late), maybe try mp later.

So you bought a game you don't like, wow you really showed them.

Terraria is tons of fun, even at $10 it's more than worth the price. But like most of these 'make your own adventure' games it's all about what making your own fun. :)

So you bought a game you don't like, wow you really showed them.

Showed them what? A mild interest? I think you're becoming defensive rather abruptly and for no reason (read: attacking a straw-man).

Otherwise feel free to point out exactly what point it is that you're trying to make there.

You called the game all but worthless yet have proceeded to play it for 11hrs? That's more game time than some AAA titles but you would never have considered paying the insanely high price of R35 for that pleasure. I would argue that's a value disconnect.

As a community I feel we should do more to get behind independent games which try to do something different, or even games which remind us that not every thing needs to turn into an interactive movie.

(also actually read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man)

Straw-man argument
:
A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.[1][2]

Here's my quote:

All that I said was that I would never have considered it had it not been as cheap as it was (it didn't interest me, you can extrapolate that much from the words "didn't like the look of it at all").

What I find absolutely ridiculous is that you'd continue to twist my words even after seeing that I've spent 11-hours playing it, but somehow you think I dislike it? Hate it?

You have an agenda you're simply dying to have out with whomsoever gives the slightest bit of negativity towards your new favourite gem.

Would you have preferred I not buy it at all? Don't be an idiot.

MineCraft, I own. Project Zomboid, I own. Trine, I own. World of Goo, I own. Braid, I own. I've supported every Humble Bundle aside from one which, unfortunately, I missed.

As I said, you are attacking a straw-man because you're looking for a fight that isn't there.

Grow up.

Shall I explain it to you next as well? Teach you comprehension? Or shall we simply settle on the fact that you're twisting my words to suit your own personal agenda? There's a good boy.

Actually, perhaps I should teach you comprehension, it's evidently something you lack in.

Try show some respect and human decency.

I made a comment, snide as it may have been, about your actions and explained my views on the perceived value of the game in question. You instead have decided to attack me personally so possibly I am not the one that needs maturing.

Since you say I "continue to twist [your] words" let me make it clearer.

I replied saying that I find it strange that a game you've played for 11hrs isn't worth R35 to you.

I don't see how you say I was 'looking for a fight', I made a little chirp then said how much I enjoyed the game. You asked me to explain my chirp and I did so, in a non-aggressive manner. You then responded with;
...absolutely ridiculous...
You have an agenda...
Don't be an idiot.

So it's fairly clear that you are the one looking for a fight. I shall again stipulate that at no point did I introduce any false arguments so your straw-man comparison is once again refuted.

You'll notice "wouldn't have" implies past tense. I looked at trailers, it DIDN'T (note: past tense) appeal to me, hence, I would never have considered it. I didn't like the 2D aspect, I didn't like the idea of it (it felt confined and lacklustre). It went for $2.50, I decided, "What the hell, let's give it a shot" and got it. If it was $5, I would've skimmed over it. There's nothing more to it than that.

I don't see how you say I was 'looking for a fight', I made a little chirp then said how much I enjoyed the game. You asked me to explain my chirp and I did so, in a non-aggressive manner. You then responded with;

You're welcome to explain how any of those are direct personal attacks. Condescending? Most certainly. They're observations of your mountain-out-of-molehill attack on the slightest bit of negativity I showed toward your new fanboi fad.

You're welcome to read and reread (until you understand) my responses to you.

I honestly don't feel the need to spoon-feed comprehension to someone who went "ZOMG U HATES MUH GAYME!" straight off the bat. That is known as looking for a fight. I'm merely retaliating and hoping that some clarity would dawn on you.

So it's fairly clear that you are the one looking for a fight. I shall again stipulate that at no point did I introduce any false arguments so your straw-man comparison is once again refuted.

Misrepresentation number 1. Also, this would be a perfect time to point out the irony in you calling for "respect and human decency." Courtesy merely repaid.

You called the game all but worthless yet have proceeded to play it for 11hrs?

Misrepresentation number 2.

That's more game time than some AAA titles but you would never have considered paying the insanely high price of R35 for that pleasure. I would argue that's a value disconnect.

Misrepresentation number 3.

How could I have known its worth without first playing it if its marketing failed to interest me?

So there you are, three examples of misrepresenting my stance by assuming how I felt about a game when all other evidence (read: XFire/Steam hours spent playing it, past tense references to how I felt beforehand, admission that I'm still not certain how I feel about it and that as of the time of my first post, it still hadn't managed to grip me--could it be that I had only spent at most an hour playing it at that time?)

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my first post and for that I can only apologise (I suppose I expect most regulars to know me well enough to not jump the gun by bad assumptions). However, it was you who chose to instantly assume that I disliked it, who continued on that tirade, who looked for a fight.

Or tell me, do you consider:

So you bought a game you don't like, wow you really showed them.

To be anything beyond a passive-aggressive statement; dripping sarcasm notwithstanding.

At this point you have an option: apologise, we laugh it off and get on with our lives, I'll shrug it off, say that it's fine, no harm no foul and happily apologise for taking the bait (rookie mistake, I'll admit) or you can continue on your blathering rampage and we see which one of us gets an infraction? This, by the way, is known as a compromise.

Regardless, as of spending 15-odd hours in Terraria, I can comfortably say that it's an enjoyable game. I have some criticisms regarding the mechanics (occasional inability to move, spawns in a very recently-cleared chamber, pain-in-ass wall removal) but all-in-all it's major fun in co-op :)

How is calling someone an idiot, telling them they lack comprehension and offering to teach it to them not an insult and an attack on ones person. I'm all for discussion, that is the point of a forum after all even if it means being on the wrong end, but what you've done is anything but, and asking me to apologize is yet another insult.

I will however offer the same insincere apology you offered me, I'm sorry you got so offended over nothing and felt the need to insult me.

To everyone else, I apologize for derailing the topic.

lol... Typical, although not surprising.

A bully always provokes; when they are retaliated against, they play the victim.

Don't start something you're not prepared to finish, don't insult someone's integrity and then expect them to treat you with even a modicum of respect. The world doesn't work that way.

I've shown you your straw-man argument, I have treated you and your opinion with the same disdain you have treated mine.

Regardless, the entertainment value of this has worn through, so I'll simply leave this the way you started it: wow, you really showed me.

So I'm an idiot and a bully, when do I grow horns and perform human sacrifices?
