Had some comments on my avatar choice, and was just wondering how many Sir Pratchett fans are on the forum.

If you are a fan, shout it out....

And who is your favorite character....

I can't pick just one but probably Rincewind, or The Patrician (wonder what that says about me)

My wife likes Susan, with nanny ogg coming a close second, but she doesn't read him much anymore.

The sad thing is I have unread books of his on my bookshelf, cause I know he doesn't have many left in him and I don't want it to end, so I started re-reading from the beginning... Even doing the truckers series again:)

I'm KIND of a Terry Pratchett fan, the problem is I don't like reading books. My girlfriend has a lot of his books, but I'm too lazy to read them. I've watched some of the movies based on his books though and I really enjoy his characters. I would say my favourite character is Death.

Truckers is incredible. I wish I could get my better half to give them a chance.. unfortunately she can't stand his writing. :/

My favourite character is Vimes, with the Librarian second. I've loved the Vimes books since Guards! Guards!, with Night Watch being my absolute favourite PTerry book. It had the perfect balance between fantasy and crime novel, IMO. Also loved Pyramids and Small Gods.

Then you've got to get your hands on the graphic novel version of Mort, the second Death book. It's actually the first PTerry work I read, and it got me to read 90% of what he's written.

Vimes is very cool, but Nobby is probably the funniest watchman, and was a fan of carrot in guards but not so much now

The books are so much better... There are worlds he builds with words that just can't translate onto celluloid. But I know what you mean, I only read TP, nothing else but once I start a TP book I won't put it down til it's done

The only books I've ever enjoyed was the Hitchhikers Guide series, but that's for another topic :)

As I said in the avatars thread, I love Pratchett. I had a small sob when I found out about his Alzheimer's, and when that wonderful man and his wonderful mind pass from this world, I'm quite certain I'll bawl.

I also (to an admittedly lesser extent, but with no less appreciation) follow his daughter, Rhianna (she's a writer for a number of video games, the latest of which were Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite).

I know how you feel about the books, I have a few purchases that I can't bring myself to read either. The last few that I've read I always feel horribly depressed when I'm done with them, terrified that there may never be another. But at the same time, his books bring me incredible joy.

My favourite character is probably Granny Weatherwax. Vetinari, Rincewind and Angua wouldn't be far behind. But I love all of his characters, even Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler :p Each of his characters appeal to a different part of my personality.

As Pratchett has himself said in an interview, his characters are all "real" -- they're all believable and relatable.

I find it strange when I come across people who say that they couldn't get into his books. I know, different strokes for different folks, but Pratchett is just such a universal author with such a grand mind, it honestly bugs me when people just "don't get it."

I know what you mean, I feel the same, and it makes it worse that a man who makes his living with his mind is struck down by an illness that affects the mind.

what always gets me, is how he seems to be thinking on several different planes at once, and you never know how he has going to tie it all together. having said that, since I learnt about his alzheimers I started noticing inconsistencies in his latest books, but I cant be certain that's not me reading things that aren't there, just cause i'm expecting them.

My favorite character would have to be Death from The Hogfather, I especially liked the BBC movie with Michelle Dockery playing Susan. I thought Teatime' was excellent as well.

Pratchett is my all time favourite writer... of all time :D

but I have almost the same problem as Eugene. And I have some unread books on the shelf as well. Just don't get time to read anymore...

as for favourite character... there are so many...
Obviously the iconic Rincewind, and the Patrician, the librarian, Cohen the Barbarian, Death, and actually everybody in the Unseen University :)

PTerry actually said that for Thief of Time, he hadn't planned that SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Ronnie Soak's name would be Kaos in reverse, he only realised it when he started writing the reveal scene.

END SPOILER

It does seem like he thinks about the stories on way different levels.

On his disease, he has said that he's started to dictate his book a couple of years ago, since he started developing some dyslexia-like symptoms. :(

Love Pratchett and will be sorry when he can no longer write due to his illness. It's great the way the discworld and it's characters have evolved. My favourite characters are the Librarian, the patrician, vimes, nobby, detrius, carrot, rincewind and colon. The best for me is the night watch and how it's changes from just the original four characters into a home for the undead and never alive.

Night Watch was the one that introduced me to the great master and his wonderful work. I have read all his books and devour them as soon as they hit the shelf.

So hard to pick a fave, but Vetinari is up there, as is Vimes, Carrot, Angua, WeatherWax, Dibbler, Death, Cohen, Mort, Susan and of course, the Nac Mac Feegles.

Also a fan of Terry Pratchett. Started reading his books from the library and now I'm slowly building up my own collection.

Vimes is my all time favourite character with Night Watch being the best book in my opinion with the Fifth Elephant being second. But of course I've enjoyed all his books from the satire to the very authentic characters.

My girlfriend actually wants to sell her books, she has quite a few of them. If anybody thinks they might be interested, let me know and we'll make a list of all the ones she has.

Huge Pratchett fan here. Over the years, I could count on Pratchett when I was down to have me crying with laughter! I'd have to say that my some of my favourite characters would be Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and all of the Nac Mac Feegles!

Leonard of Quirm.
Of the more regulars it has to be the Librarian.

BTW, if you enjoy Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams give Jasper Fforde a go.
Thank me later, I'll be right here waiting.

I have to admit that I read 90% of his books by age 16, reread most of them again by 25, will read them again at some point. Weirdly enough for me now, I just need a break from the world he created.

Altho I would love to live near Granny Weatherwax :P
