Yes yes, I know it's pretty old tech and nobody seems to like them anymore but does anyone (besides me) actually play them?

I'm talking about MUDs (Multi-user dungeon) here. One in particular has grabbed my attention over the last couple years - Medievia.

It's immersive and persistent and loadsa fun. I guess if you hate to read it might be an issue :D

These kinda games aren't for me. I don't get much time to game and when I do the last thing I want to do is spend half of that time reading.

Speak to Tarvos, he plays some of them.

lol i use to love these games at varsity ... we had sun solaris terminals so MUD was perfect for it :D we had like a dedicated server running there

I used to love them, but then I started working which requires me to type and stuff so I tend not to..... mouse click FTW!

> Look.
- You see vast open spaces. Obvious exits are North and East.
> Walk North
* Voicy walks North.
* Voicy gets pwned by a Gru.
> Quit.

Was thinking of putting one up just for fun on the WUG I am a member of. Just as a tribute to this era of gaming. I remember playing this in the computer labs at TUKS for hours on end, day in and day out... MAN THOSE WERE THE BEST!!!

omg ant! Hello :D

You should totally do it!

Get hold of DikuMUD or one of the premodded ones and run that. You can customize it and make it awesome. Gonna be running a little experimental one off my work line at some point as well.

Thisgeek has set up tinyMUD on our clan site where some of us telnet into and lurk around. It's a bit pointless for those not exposed to this sort of thing back in the day... for the lucky few, it brings back fond memories equal and/or greater to eating those pop-rocks that crackle in your mouth that you got inside lucky packets.

mmm pop rocks. Had some last week :D From the US though :/

Go immediately and play Medievia. It'll make you all happy inside.

i used to play new war era, raging universe and world of destruction...

...spent 5min each hour at work to update my game. wod is down but will be back in april (lets hope)

I used to find that after a few hours playing and once you get to know your way around, you start using your mind to imagine the room the text describes. So you end up in a mind movie of your own making.
