I'm surprised that a thread hasn't been started about this already. (unless I'm missing something...)

Anyway, so the first two games were yesterday. Honestly, I think SA did a great job with the opening ceremony. Sure, it wasn't quite the Beijing Olympics but for our standards I thought it was good.

As for SA vs Mexico... SA is ranked 83 in the world and Mexico is ranked around the 17 mark, so SA was very lucky to have tied the game. And I say luck because I agree that there was a lot of fumbling about on the field but the boys were obviously under huge pressure. That said, however, it was the first time I had ever watched Bafana Bafana and I must say, it made me feel all warm and tingly inside....

Your thoughts?
 
Good match, what I liked about Bafana was the fact that they totally went for it even though the pressure increased dramatically when Mexico scored. (Unlike our choker cricket team who falls to pieces when faced with adversity :p )
World class goal by Tshabalala (our office went nuts) and excellent attacking in the second half.
Would have liked them to have won, but hey, they did well :)

I was speking to a guy this morning who was at Soccer City yesterday and he had nothing but good things to to say about the organization of the match yesterday.
 
first time we pass the initial match, even if it's a draw i say it's a good win for bafaans :)

Good for Bafana,but I would never go to a match in person,that vuvuzela's drives me crazy :mad:
 
Bafana has a good chance of going through to the second round - homeground advantage, pressure to perform, the underdog factor, and other incentives.

Ranking is not everything, as was proved many times in the past, not only with SA but, numerous countries. Most recently though, SA vs Spain, SA vs Brazil (Granted, we won neither but, we held our own against the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the world) and now, SA vs Mexico. Ranking = useless.
