The Apple iPad - made especially for Starcraft 2

Well, Apple has majestically created another masterpiece - a giant iPhone with great apps that leaves me drooling. Anyway, I've just noticed that Blizzard would be releasing Starcraft 2 beta for the Mac and I was wondering why Blizzard's website has such a large buttons. Then it hit me - the iPad! Do you guys think Blizzard would be releasing the game for the iPad? And if so, how do you guys think the hardware could accommodate the game given that the newest Apple device does not have any mouse.

Tbh, if Starcraft 2 is released on the iPad, I would buy the iPad right away.

Apparently, 44 % of all iPad software development thus far has been games. So its really likely that this is possible. However, I wonder how easily it would be to controll. (Read: micro management is a bitch)

The ipad is running an os similar to the iphone. Not OSX, so starcraft 2 running on that is less than likely.
Cool idea for other tablet PCs though.

No - I do not think so at all. The iPad comes with a 1GHz processor, running not even on Mac OS X, but on the next gen version of the iPhone OS, ie OS 4.0.

Firstly, I don't think a 1 GHz processor will run a game like SCII, and secondly I don't know how you could play a game like that without any keyboard or mouse.

A nice idea, but I think it is very unlikely to happen - but then if it does, I will certainly consider buying an iPad.

Maybe not SC2 but I can think of some awesome games to play on a big touchscreen like that. You won't have tactile feedback though. Could be a bit weird.

Yeah, I guess micro-management would be an issue. But given Blizzard's intuitiveness, I think they could develop on top of SC2's hotkey system (wherein all units will be hot-keyed, and thus is click-able on screen) and use them to control the units better. But I think they need to lower the 200 pop cap to do that, and smaller map as well. But the accelerometer could be used to scroll through the map smoothly. :)

Yeah, but I always have a sense that the iPad is a small Microsoft Surface. I think they could implement the simulated tactile feedback developed on MS Surface on the iPad.

I think you are right in regards of the processor power of the iPad. Although cloud based gaming could change all that, we could probably not see this happening for Starcraft 2... maybe SC3? For the keyboard, I think SC2's new UI and hotkey system allows players to click through the screen instead of using the keyboard. ^^ Anyway, hope to see you all soon online in SC2 ^^

I'm not too fussed in terms of playing games on it, but I'm really interested to see how the iPad develops. I just bought a Sony e-book reader, and while I'm quite happy with it so far, I can't help but think the iPad will meet my needs faaaaar more elegantly. Does anyone have an idea as to release date & pricing yet?

Yeah, it just released today. Really cool book app imo. Ask for a refund while you still can, I heard the iPad could even make good salsa ^^

Look at this!
Crysis running on the iPad! Woot! The device was totally meant for Starcraft 2!
