Ok, so since I'm relatively new here at MyGaming, I'd like to get a feel of the kind of people I'll be getting into bed with. One of the ways I plan on finding out is through this question: which is the most badass or your most favourite action RPG game series?

*EDIT*
Everyone is welcome to comment their preferred game if I happen to have left it out. I'm finding a lot of interesting options mentioned in the thread replies.

Nice thread. There are some games that I wouldn't classify as action RPGs and some other that are that I would have included in the list. Hehe however, I went with Diablo. I've spent more hours playing the various Diablo games than any other games.

Interesting pick. What are these other game you speak of?

I like The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Fable and Final Fantasy sooooo, I don't know hey. Maybe FF because I watched my brother play VIII, IX and X when I was a tiny-tot and I have played FF II, VII and X myself.

Hehe, I actually wasn't sure whether to include games like Mass Effect and Deus Ex, both of which I like. I also tried to avoid making the list too long so I went with what I thought would be the most popular options, at least in my head. But it does look like I overlooked quite a few good options. I wonder if I should expand the list.

Another interesting pick, & I almost left it out on account of it not being classified action RPG but figured there'd be a man hunt for me if I didn't include it.

There can be only one, and those that know me will agree: The Diablo series

I've clocked over 1000 hours on D3 and probably the same for D2.

The Elder Scrolls and Fallout is a distant second.

FF is definitely not action rpgs. Maybe the later ones to a certain degree, but wont count them as such.

To me number 1 has to be diablo. Simply because of the pedigree and the amount of hours i have spent playing it.

Honourable mentions goes out to : Titan Quest, Sacred and Torchlight.

What!? This is impossible to choose between The Witcher, Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

So hard my brain is not handling this question in the slightest.

*bradbear is hospitalised.

Easy. The Witcher. (Not really an ARPG though)

Edit: didn't see action RPG. If you mean ARPG as in an isometric, loot driven game then the answer is Grim Dawn.

Well, the question was asking any particular individual what their favourite is, and a list was provided. I chose from that list as you did. :)

Plus , I think the question was phrased as to include both action RPGs and 'ordinary' RPGs.

Isn't that why he put (*RPG) in brackets. Then put the * next to FF and Dragon Age to indicate that it is not like the others mentioned?

Dark Bane. Only saw the list now and I have to ask. Are you aware that there is no Grim Dawn on your list? You can't have a list of action RPG's and not have Grim Dawn on it. That's like asking what is the best FF game and only listing games from another franchise.

Neither witcher nor dragon age are action rpg's. They are story driven rpg's, classifying them with games like diablo is just wrong...

If I had to pick out of the list thought witcher series over dragon age ( it would be close DA 2 wasn't such a disaster).

Where is Mass Effect

It actually was quite difficult leaving out some of the options I had initially intended to include on the list, I guess my own bias is showing a little bit. But my complete initial list would no doubt have garnered a massive backlash since there are different genres and sub-genres of RPGs. Also, it would've been chaotic to just write RPG and have the list as it is now, so I wanted to at least indicate that I was listing games that had certain styles of gameplay.

What would you have gone with if not for the list?

Ah, many forum wars have been fought over the ages-old question: what is an RPG. :D

I think in the case of Witcher and Dragon Age both franchises tread the fine line between the two genres. Both Witcher 1 and Dragon Age Origins were solidly CRPGs and as the series' went on they became more action-oriented, ditching some of the RPG elements along the way. Dragon Age a lot more so than Witcher, though. The Witcher became better as the series progressed, whereas Dragon Age had a great first game and meh follow-ups.

Eis it would be easier to say pick best RPG developer, and even then I would have a hard time picking a winner. Each series excell at something the others dont example for me:

Light hearted fun: Torchlight
Story: Dragon Age
Emerson: Eldar Scrolls
Addiction: Diablo
Co-Op fun: Borderlands
and so on..

If I have to pick the best "action" rpg it would be Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning cause its almost just an action game with a dash of RPG.
