The Decline of Strategy Gaming

Lol i think it's because there haven't been any major jaw dropping titles as of late or in the past 5 years, but this one might surprise us :D

which will just be more of the same. RTS is a an exhausted genre

Well to be honest all gerne's are exchasted. FPS, RPG, Sims they all the same old regurgitated crap with new dressing. Regardless I still find some of them a challenge. Right now playing Theater of war and man this game makes me try out all kinds of tactics to try and kick the cheating AI's backside.

Neither of those are strategy games, though. If anything, they're adventure/RPG games.

They do have a bit of Strategy in them depending on what you do in them.

Pokemon Battles online is where strategy comes into play in that game and skylanders strategy is choosing the right character for certain bosses and areas to progress.

I think his point being that there's a difference between games that are classified as strategy games and games that have components of strategy/tactics in them (which the vast majority do)

Then call of duty black ops II is by your definition a strategy game. You have to CHOOSE your gun at the start of the mission. Then they have that tactics game where you control the movements of your 4 squads to take an objective or defend a base.

Yeeeah... That still doesn't make them strategy games.

strategy noun (plural strategies)
a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim:
time to develop a coherent economic strategy
shifts in marketing strategy
  • the art of planning and directing overall military operations and movements in a war or battle. Often contrasted with tactics (see tactic).
  • a plan for military operations and movements during a war or battle: nonprovocative defense strategies
tactic noun
an action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end.
(tactics) [also treated as singular] the art of disposing armed forces in order of battle and of organizing operations, especially during contact with an enemy. Often contrasted with strategy.

I think what you people refer to in FPS and such games is tactics not strategy?

That Metal gear Acid game for PSP was a fun TBC game. You got cards to move across the map and then would use various weapon cards to attack the enemy. I don't know if I would class it as strategy since there was plenty of luck to the game but its was. I wouldn't mind a similar game for PC.
