The Division On PC Medium Settings Already Looks Better Than Consoles

When The Division was first revealed back during E3 2013, many were taken aback by the astonishing amount of details that the demonstration presented. However it seems that the console versions will be lacking those details. But the PC version on the other hand might be a different story. Youtube user Alobordo uploaded a minute of gameplay footage from the PC version of the game at medium graphical settings and it already looks head and shoulders above the console versions (for comparison’s sake check out the footage of the X1 version here). You can check out the video of the PC version below this post.

The PC version comes packed with a ton of graphical options and it will be interesting to see how the game runs at 4K resolution and 60fps with all settings maxed out. It seems that Ubisoft is finally getting serious about making a superior PC version, unlike some of its previous offerings.

Moving on. There has been a lot of speculation regarding The Division’s map size. One Reddit user has speculated that the map has a total area of 3.54 mi^2 and a total distance of 9.57 mi. Take these numbers with a grain of salt but the actual map layout (buried within a video by OpenWorldGames) is pretty similar to what the Redditor came up with. Check out the comparison below.

The Division is due this March for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

I have to say, this generation of consoles is really disappointing. I couldn't stand watching the Xbox One footage with it's sub 30fps. I need to see PC footage with a reasonable framerate before judging the game.

With what we know of the current-gen consoles, is it really that surprising the #PCRace is still dominant in the graphics department?

Unless these systems just aren't being pushed as hard as what they can be...

They are being pushed, so hard in fact that they can barely keep a stable 30fps in most games...

I thought consoles always had lower graphics to PC

They do, but with the consoles still being so young it is really worrying that they are already so far behind PC hardware that they can barely handle PC's medium settings at 30FPS.

The next generation of consoles should just have upgrade-able parts, like a modular system, but that would also bring a bunch of new problems if you start having console "minimum requirements"

Didn't the N64 have a RAM upgrade or something? I think Star Fox required it, iirc.

The world was a lot less bitchy back then

Only because the internet wasn't really public yet :) And it was only a once off, all they had to do was put "Requires 1MB module" or whatever it was on the box. Nothing as 'confusing' as PC minimum requirements :P

So what if the game is graphically superior on console? What happened to the fact that we play games not platforms or graphics?

Yes graphics make a game more presentable and bring you closer to reality but many of us, seem to forget that aesthetics has a role to play too. I would play with my 'crappy' 30fps locked game with 'good enough visuals' because I can't afford to go out and buy a new components to play a game. Perhaps due to my age and that I have been gaming for over 20 years I have become jaded.

I applaud the writer (Adam Meikle) for the article yet, it's not really news worthy, it's is somewhat common knowledge that PC's will beat consoles in the visuals department. Least we not forget that this beta footage of a build that could have been compiled months ago. Optimisation still has to be done on the consoles.

Then again, the Division should have perhaps been a PC exclusive, how ever Ubisoft thinks otherwise.

TL;DR
We knew this from day one. Play games not platforms.

No ways I don't believe it a pc with unlimited power depending on components can't beat consoles with set hardware..This is non news.

And I agree with this sentiment, this is why I still own a PS3. It's more a matter of how disappointing the current gen consoles are performance wise compared to what their predecessors were when they were new.

It's a thread about the graphics, not a debate on what makes a good game. I think everyone understands their are many factors to making a good game. For some people, graphics are important, some it's not. It really doesn't matter why you enjoy a game you play. As long as you enjoy it.

In regards to the thread, I am a little surprised medium settings are better than console.
