The Elder Scrolls Online Beta

Does anyone else's game not have voice overs at all?

Could it be that the volume is just really, really, really low? If so, I think that had something to do with speaker configuration in Windows or something. MAYBE.

/clueless.

Otherwise try repairing? :x

Pleasantly surprised, good fun and pretty old school, although the quest system is a mix between GW2 and traditional. The skill system is pretty tough to figure out, will get there.

My biggest gripe: telegraphs are too quick for us post 40 year old + 300ms people as well as hard to spot on the ground. It looks to be a standard in all new MMOs now, hate it.

I see the people are having a fit about the preorder/imp ed items only being available to one character. That's kinda lame.

The 5 day access code I bought has nothing except a mara scroll. Not too stressed, when I put my real account number in once I get the box I will get my little pre-order goodies. I have learned that getting excited about those is a very short lived feeling in MMOs.

Yeah, very lame. A number of people have accepted their pre-order stuff from the mail and then deleted those characters, thus losing everything.

Bit stupid on the devs' part since people are bound to create and delete multiple characters until they're happy.

They'd better sort it out. It leaves a foul impression in the minds of those who took the plunge to pre-order or order their pricier editions.

Does that include the character in any alliance? That's kind of relevant since I'll be playing with buddies and I doubt we'll all want to play races from the same alliance.

Not sure, but if i had to take a guess from the responses i would say that faction doesn't mater. 1 character and its gone.

As long as they don't accept the items in the mail, they can delete the character without problems--the mails will remain even with a new character. However, if the items have been retrieved and the character is deleted before depositing the items into their bank, then the items will be irretrievably gone.

I can imagine customer support being inundated with complaints about this, and for damn good reason.

The game, however, is great fun :p

No, no. I mean one of the pre-order bonuses was the ability to create a character in any faction. I'm just wondering if it's a once off thing or from that point on I'll be able to add any race to any faction? I get that the items are one character and then gone for good if you delete it.

That should apply to any/all of your characters, not just the first one.

I was contemplating rerolling a character when I realised that spending skill points in templar heals and staff heals was a waste, you can only have so many on the bar but then I realised, I have spent so little points and I read that getting points later is pretty easy. Besides, I have fallen in love with my character. I have died SO many times between level 1-6 experimenting with the combat (I already have an achievement for dying so often, muahahah), worth it though, I know some jewels of experience now.

Surprisingly the game runs great on my very average system with full settings.

Remember you get two weapons sets that you can swap between at any time, each has a unique hotbar. Apparently good advise is to diversify early lots of people run 5 of an armour type and 2 of another kind. 5 nets you the passive bonus.

Yep as GazWorks mentions, i think it's lvl 15 where this "feature" unlocks. It is similar to GW2 where if you switch weapons (this would be a hotkey, not you going into your inventory and swopping it manually) you get a new [customizable] action bar where you can place different abilities. I fully expect to have a staff vs. sword+shield thing going with a Templar.

I rolled a Templar and a Nightblade , and so far Templar my favorite, despite me turning it into some sort of sorcerer at this point (i hardly use my stamina abilities, might consider getting a bow or staff). I played a DragonKnight and Sorceror in beta, and they were kinda "meh" or shall i say, prone to being stereotype playstyle (2H Melee and Ranged Magic User ) whereas the Templar seems to be alot more open to diversifying ... i can see it quite possible to be a Templar in Cloth and being a pure healer OR a Heavy Armor Melee Tank OR a self-healing hybrid.

The Nightblade seems to be the Necromancer (Poisons/CC/Dots) vs. Dual Wielding Assassin vs. Bow type of DPS class, but still felt more flexible in terms of where points go and specialisation.

I'm sure the Sorceror and DragonKnight have some interesting paths to go down, but i didn't feel it, it felt somewhat straight forward to me.

A different way of putting it, i felt you can quite easily gimp a Templar or Nightblade due to alot of weapon/armor/class abilities looking like they can work together, whereas the other 2 classes felt kind of obvious where you should focus.

Also just a big tip for the people that didn't play the older betas. There is what they call "Starter Islands" for every Alliance. They no longer "force" anyone to go to these islands. So when you pop out of the tutorial you are a in a big faction town which is probably like lvl 5+ with all these quests available (so you can just start questing from there) . However, if you do read your initial quest text you will get a lead on traveling back to the "Starter Island" of your faction, which is a lvl 3-6 area. I think alot people miss that and go straight into the city and get their arses handed to them for a few levels :).

In the older betas, you were placed on this island straight out of the tutorial and had to finish the main story on the island before you could go to the mainland. So i suppose they felt this is a bit too restrictive and linear and made it optional.

Either way, some starter islands are better than others, but you get a good start with gear and skyshards/skill points by going there.

The dragonknight is one of the best casters in the game if you spec fire based destruction and it's class abilities. I saw Force solo dungeons easily with it, even those adventure zone area things. His main complaint is that the game outside of instanced dungeons is too easy.

I would LOVE to be a heavy armour, sword/board templar healer but that is just not going to happen. It looks like you will seriously gimp yourself with magicka regen and use by going heavy. Also spreading skill points will make you pretty weak it seems, until you get more points.

Maybe later when I have my healing skills up to scratch, then I can think of going that route, with the weapons anyways.

As it is now my templar feels like a holy mage, very much like a priest in WoW. Cast a snare/dot, nuke, nuke, finish off with staff, next. At least in the beginning I can see playing a healer is going to be the classic pain, slow, difficult with very few combat options but with many good healing options: old school.

Aah, well i saw the fire magical abilities but didn't quite see the "fireball" type of stuff , it seemed to compliment a melee dps playstyle as opposed to becoming a "fire mage" that fights at range .

Either way, i'm not saying they are weak or bad classes. I am the type that always play the Druid or Shaman type of classes which have a wide range of playstyles (heal, tank and dps (melee and ranged) ). DK just seemed to have a more narrow path, the first 12 or so levels anyhow.

So when i say i didn't quite see it, i mean , i didn't quite see a DK turn into a fireball , staff wielding caster.... even though the game will certainly allow you to try (which is definitely very cool about this game) . Likewise with Sorcerer, i didn't see myself turning it into a "BattleMage" with heavy armor and shield+sword while throwing lightning bolts (something i actually did in Skyrim).

Again, the game does allow you to specialise in any weapon/armor skill line regardless of class, DK and Sorc just seemed to me less likely to delve into weapons/armor outside of the obvious. Whereas i could see someone make a Nightblade go heavy armor, sword&board and using those Necro (health tap/siphon) abilities to become some sort of "death knight" and immediately switching out of it and be some sort of a "Ranger" with the CC+poison abilities and Bow.

The notion of the obvious is something that sort of needs to fall away. Force ran a DK with sword + Shield in 5 piece light and 2 piece medium. His second set was the destruction staff. The big thing in this game is the disables and AoE, he utterly destroyed mobs tuned for group play by dropping that grasping earth root and and AoE burn on the floor. He could even solo world bosses as long as there was just one of them. Since knock down/knock bck/root/slow is pretty potent.

Personally though i am either going to be a DK tank or a Khadjit tank. Big fan of sword and board warriors.

As cool as all that sounds, it does sound like something that will get nailed with the nerfbat, i.e. an exploit. Almost any ability that allows a class to stun/disable a mob/boss or a group of mobs to such an extend that they can solo "destroy" content meant for groups, well that is nerf material right there. So i don't normally rely on what the min/max hardcore people pull off with their classes though.
