The Elder Scrolls Online

Apparently this one is a hotfix for some banking problem, but I'm still wondering whether it's really necessary to do it just as primetime starts. Other MMO companies do their maintenance after midnight or early mornings, not 4PM in EU just when everyone starts coming home.

As if it isn't bad enough that we have to put up with 'EU' servers being hosted in the US. I notice they're also keeping mum on when those servers will be moved.

agh long downtime are a little expected imo, its a young MMO that needs a lot of patching. There hasnt been an mmo that started playing when released that didnt do this. I sympathize with the devs, it must be tough to balance game up-time and patching.

In fairness, ppl would have complained no matter what time it was done

Yes, there would be complainers even if they chose to do it at 3AM, but it would be a lot less than when they choose to do it at 4PM, when most people are starting to come home and want to log on.

At least it seems like they did something about the goldsellers and bots. I didn't hear a single goldseller yesterday and there were no bots camping bosses in dungeons. It's probably a question of time for when they make their return, but they're being pushed out of the game slowly but surely.

Well let's hope there is no downtime during the Easter weekend.

/sigh. And they've done it again and decided to do maintenance now?! Easter Friday, and now they pick the morning to do it when everyone is at home? /boggle . Irony is, i'm leveling my Crusader in Diablo 3 to 70 PURELY on ESO Maintenance time!

So my game had a small update...

I had an hour for lunch to play, I decided to watch this instead.

I was not disappointed, he is very good, it is very funny and so so so true.

I still will be playing through to WS though, simply because there is nothing out there I want to play right now.

I was reading some comments on NAG and I cant believe the hate for this game. Saying that this game is WoW with a new skin and all sorts of ranting and raving. Has the SA community always been this bitchy??

To say that its a WoW clone clearly shows me they haven't actually played the game. This game has taken a completely different take on the MMO genre and is a welcome change. Are the bugs? sure there are, but show me one MMO or game that has launched bug free and balanced. There is a lot of content and already new content is coming out soon. This game deserves to stay a subbed game and I pray never goes the f2p model. This is by far the best MMO experience iv had in a long time and im thoroughly enjoying it!

I saw this comment on reddit, which for me sums it all up:

"It's not about TESO being the perfect game, it's about voicing realistic expectations and what potential the game has and judging by it, accordingly.
•Is it buggy? Yes!
•Has it Problems, long Loading times, unnecessary lags etc? Of Course!

But this is NOT something that disqualifies it as a great game. There has not been a SINGLE MMORPG in the history of time that could even be considered "decent" at release. If you could judge "launch day WOW" by today's standards, the game would have tanked within 2 months and that would have been it. We didn't, because we didn't know any better, and therefore it flourished.

By now though, all "new" MMO players (and by new i mean EVERYONE (!!!) that has started in the past 10 years) are used to what wow has become in the meantime and many of you judge any new game by these standards.

which, i am sorry to say, is fucking moronic. You simply can not compare a 3 Week old game to a 10 year old game. Starts with "normal bugs" being ironed out after 10 years and even "minor" movement glitches and weapon swaps/animations etc. WoW is by all means "Bug-free".

TESO, for the first time in years is a game that - other than games like SW:TOR and (soon) Wildstar - has a (relatively) unique formula:
•Less Hand holding
•a more sophisticated crafting
•a better and more even playing field in regards to the equipment curve at lvl 50 (best eq comes from players, stat. no exponential stat growth due to pve like in wow)
•no "real" auction house, more socializing needed
•3 faction pvp
•dynamic combat instead of yet another hotkey mmo

i could go on, but you get my point.

Now. Either you like what eso brings to the table, and if you do you should just calm the f* down and play, wait for 2-4 months and see every glitch ironed out OR you don't like what the game brings to the table, and in that case: Why did you even bother buying it?

TESO is the first MMO in years that i did NOT follow actively during development, and that i did NOT buy at release, i only bought it 10 days ago, after having read this subreddit and other forums, and after having read everything about "this buggy game" etc etc. because what I was actually reading was that the game's mechanics are actually great. only overshadowed by the usual launch-day issues. and to me. these don't even remotely qualify as a CON against an MMO.

Would i count it as a con against a singleplayer game? OF COURSE, but I am not looking for 50 hours of Singleplayer experience, I am looking for a game that i can still be playing in 5 years. Who cares if the first 2 months have been rocky?"

only overshadowed by the usual launch-day issues. and to me.

I have to say that, as far as launches go, ESO had one of the smoothest I've ever experienced.

Early access went without a hitch--no queues, no lag spikes, no drama and launch day was the same.

Unfortunately there is occasional downtime as they sort out issues, exploits and bugs but they're so infrequent that I've never been affected, except once for about an hour.

Of course, I understand the frustration that many experience when they want to play and they can't, but being down for about three hours two to three times a week isn't bad.

My three biggest criticisms of the game:

1. The world isn't really open (we can't have one character and explore the map--faction areas are locked off). I find this very, very stupid, especially in an MMO and especially in an Elder Scrolls MMO. I want to see Morrowind without having to create another character. I should have ONE character in this game that I can do everything I want with. That's the entire point of Elder Scrolls, no? :p
2. Your race/gender is never acknowledged. Ever.
3. The "EU" server is in Canada. That's right up there with false advertising and misleading customers.

1.All areas open up at veteran level. Once you reach 50 you can go to all the areas.
2.Downtime during eu prime time has been an issue.
3.Slow customer support concerning the bank bug.
4.Issues with phasing for groups.

Still enjoying the game but certain issues still need to be worked on.

So far I'm loving it. I hit level 40 on my Dragon Knight this afternoon. I hope to hit 50 by Friday, because I want to start a Sorcerer alt. My biggest gripes with the game so far have been technical issues and those can be fixed.

I don't quite agree here. I'm of the opinion that the downtimes last week were so inconvenient that they need to consider giving everyone a day or two free playtime. We had scheduled maintenance last week Tuesday, then on the same day the servers went down for several hours right in EU prime time. Then the server was down for several hours again friday morning, right at the start of easter weekend and it went down again for several hours on Saturday evening, right in the busiest time of the week.

Altogether we probably had between 12 and 15 hours of downtime last week. That's really a lot for one week, especially considering the times when most of it happened. I know they can't always foresee when issues are going to occur, but that's just terrible.

My biggest issue with the game is still the dungeons. There is no reason to run them again after the first time. As a healer and/or tank, I like running dungeons, its good fun and a good way to hone your skills but getting 0 xp and 0 loot is not worth it. For pity's sake, I seriously gimp my characters to be able to fulfill these roles in dungeon groups and then have to sukkel through the harder open world content because of it, just to run 3 dungeons once per zone?

Ergh

It REALLY pisses me off.

Then, having to GRIND veteran levels to do the easiest dungeon at "end game", no thanks. So basically the game ends around 45 or so for my characters, 3 factions, 3 alts max.

I try hard to ignore the bots etc, but the dungeon thing just gets me really riled up.
