The Gaymer Thread

I've often found that when people say they can't relate to a gay character, what they really mean is that they don't like it and don't want to play one. I can't really think of any other reason why someone would have to object to playing as a gay character. As Qornea said, in the majority of games you don't really relate to the characters at all.

Not that I'm calling anyone out or anything. If you don't want to play a gay character, that's your choice. Just be up-front about it.

Necroing this thread to let you gaymers know that Mortal Kombat X now has their first gay character, and I think they handled it extremely well in the game, alluding to it very subtly without making a big deal out of it. Let me know what you guys think.

That is actually pretty cool...
 
I just want to say that no matter what anyone thinks of the game overall, Elder Scrolls Online is one of the games where I think gay characters have been handled the best of any videogame thus far. The game world is filled with homosexual pairings and very often if you're not paying attention, you won't even notice them.

There's no big fuss over their sexual orientation or anything like that. They're just gay and that's that.
 
I missed the Elder Scrolls Online beta player return weekend because I got so distracted with Guild Wars 2 "whistling:
 
Some of the reaction to Kun Jing being gay has been pretty annoying. Mostly the cries of "SJW" interference and "pandering" etc etc.

Like, can we just live? I'm super stoked that developers are featuring more diverse characters in a subtle and matter-of-factly fashion. Hope to see more of it :)

Haha this thread did go off into the deep end I must admit; I think a lot of us were more into playing games and getting on with things than discussing LGBT issues in gaming. I don't think I've even been tracking any controversies.

Still, welcome [MENTION=24253]djw338[/MENTION] - I'm based in Joburg, myself, so I'm not really clued up on the gaymers in CT (or in Joburg, for that matter); we don't have like official meets or anything.

There is a Gaymers SA Facebook group which may be a help; it's a closed group, but you can request entry.

Otherwise, well, there's always the hope that this thread could get rejuvenated with some discussion. I'll try be more active here as well.
