The Legendary Troll Hunter
If the Great Gods of Gaming where to take on Avatars, each representing an iconic Hero [a character anybody identifies with a specific genre] from one of the Gaming Disciplines[The different Genre] who would those Iconic Heroes be?

Since we today have many disciplines and mixed disciplines I will attempt to break it down into its core groups. Here Goes:
First Person Shooter
Real-Time Stratagy
Role Playing Game
Simulator
Fighting
Racing
Platformer
3Rd Person
Sports
Survival Horror
Adventure (Includes Point and Click Games)
MMO*

We will put it to the community to decide. Post the Iconic Character associated with each genre and I'll count them. Maybe if we ask Tinman very nicely he will put up a poll to make voting even easier.
*If I missed any genre you guys(and gals) think should form part of it let me know an we may add it.

You can add survival horror to that list. :) Ooo and if old-school then you can add point-and-click adventure... plus turnbased strategy.
 
Added survival Horror & Adventure (Which may include point and click games) As for Turn Based Strategy they can be added to RTS, as RTS is a generalized term for most Strategy games.
 
First Person Shooter:Duke, anyone?
Real-Time Stratagy:Tanya from C&C:Red Alert...or The Horned Reaper from Dungeon Keeper 2 [not sure if it fits this category]
Role Playing Game: Diablo...or Aribeth de Tylmarande from the Forgotten Realms games.
Simulator:Pick a Sim, any Sim
Fighting
Platformer:Either Sonic or Mario or even Abe from Oddworld
Adventure (Includes Point and Click Games):Guybrush Threepwood, Roger Wilco or the eponymous Hero from Quest for Glory
 
Remember Guys(and Gals) the Avatar of the gods must be instantly recognizable.

FPS: Duke Nukem
RTS: A Firebat from Starcraft or Cain from C&C Tiberian Sun
RPG: Vault Boy From Fallout
Sim: A Spore Creature or a Random Sim with the Green diamond above its head.
Fighting: Ryu - No contest.
Racing:Though one as racers dont really have characters. I got it, Didi Kong in his cart from Didi Kong Racing 64.
Platformer: Im tempted to say Abe from Oddworld but i think the most icon platformer is still Mario.
3rd Person: Solid Snake or Lara Croft
Sports: Im going to skipp this one as i have never played a sports game.
Survival Horror: I think Leon from Res4 or Isaac From Dead Space
Adventure: Grim Fandango
MMO: A Night Elf from WOW
 
First Person Shooter - Master Chief (Try beating that sales record)
Role Playing Game - Cloud Strife
Simulator - Maya from yourself Fitness
Fighting - Kasumi (one sexy Ninja)
Racing - Mia from NFS Most Wanted
Platformer - Sonic
3Rd Person - Lara Croft *No Contest
Sports - Maria Sharapova in Virtua Tennis 3
Survival Horror - Claire From Resident evil code veronica X
Adventure (Includes Point and Click Games) Cant think of 1 now
MMO* - That Chick From Tabula Rasa
 
The Horned Reaper isn't instantly recognisable?

Let's invent a catagory for him....um....

Management Games?
 
First Person Shooter - Master Chief
Role Playing Game - Cloud Strife
Simulator - Any character from the sims
Fighting - Ryu (known world wide)
Racing - Vin Diesel (u associate him with racing :p wheel man, fast and furious)
Platformer - Sonic
3Rd Person - Max Payne
Sports - Tiger Woods
Survival Horror - Chris Redfield
Adventure (Includes Point and Click Games) Leisure suit larry
MMO* - Arthas
 
Lol bubble bobble was not a puzzle game!, if u wanting puzzle game u needing something like the myst series, now that was a puzzle game

When I said puzzle games, I meant stuff like Bust a Move and what not. But, those shouldn't realy be considered games.
