The Hitman Thread

The next (is it the 9th? I think it is...) installment of the Hitman series is scheduled for PC, PS4 and XBox release on March 11. Judging from some beta reports though, it sounds like IO Interactive still have a fair bit of work to do if they want to hit their release date:

This past weekend saw a beta for PS4 players, while PC players get their chance at a beta trial this coming weekend:
The PC Beta is scheduled to start at 11:00 CET on February 19th 2016 and ends on February 22nd at 11:00 CET worldwide. *SOURCE*

After much confusion and changes to the way the game would be released, IO have settled on an episodic approach to releasing the game content.

On-launch, the game will only consist of the prologue missions (pretty much the content that the beta has) and the Paris location (Episode 1).

New content will then be released on a monthly basis, including Sapienza and Marrakesh (Episodes 2 and 3) in April and May respectively, followed by missions in Thailand, the U.S. and Japan (Episodes 4-6) by the end of 2016.

Weekly events and "additional planned content" between the monthly updates.

These episodes will be available at no cost to people who purchase "The Full Experience" (on Steam @ R499) version of the game. Those who opt for "The Intro Pack" (on Steam @ R130) initially get the Prologue and Paris mission, and then will be able to buy the future episodes as they are released. (not on Steam yet, but seen US$9.99 per episode on Hitman site) *SOURCES*

I'm gonna wait a week when its out and look at reviews and feedback... Would LOVE to get the full thing (MASSIVE hitman fan, hitman, thief and half life are my top 3 game franchises of all time), but man Arkham Knight left me with a bad taste in my mouth whenever I see "pre-order".

I was a massive Hitman fan back in the day... When the first game came out it was so new and different, it was fantastic!

It seemed to lose its spark very quickly though, and i think i lost interest around number 3...

This Episodic release sounds like a really awesome way to release a game though! In this day and age i think many of us struggle to sit down with a game and get through 20+ hours to finish it, playing an episode or 2 every month or so sounds right up my street! Just wonder how it will work on PS4? I suppose like a downloadable game? Surely they wouldn't package the game and release it with the prologue and 1 episode?

"If you prefer to wait we will also ship the complete season on a disc at the end of 2016." Am assuming therefore that it'll be available as a digital download only as you suggest. At least until the release of the last episode. Presumably also at that stage it'll be cheaper as most who will want to play the game will have gone the digital episodes route already.

Ah thank you my good sir... Suppose it makes sense to release it all once it's out, but agreed the value drops quite a lot...

I've always been a fan of the Hitman franchise, but much like Thief I find it's loosing it's way. The more videos I'm seeing I'm really loosing interest in this. Granted it's still beta, but some things I can't see them changing or fixing.

What i saw in the beta videos I liked. Can save (yay no stupid retarded checkpoint system that undoes all my guard takeouts) manually... And I'm almost 100% certain they know their target market includes the niche perfectionists who will want the thrill of no prompts/instincts etc, and include a "pure" mode. Which is awesome :) gimme blood money with absolution graphics and contracts maps and ill gladly hand over my money

I know it may sound silly, but it's kinda the little things like dragging a body; I hate the way of the animation and the way his wrists bend during this. I really just looks like dragging a ragdoll not a person. Then the split animation when putting them from the ground to instantly in the arms and into a trash bin or closet.

Also like changing clothes, the way they instantly change. Not that they can really do things differently, just the transition to me breaks the immersion.

Oh, and don't get me started on the "eagle vision" mode, this is just a cheat as far as I'm concerned.

But surely if thats the stuff that bugs you, then you would have hated the first games...dragging a body in the first one was frikking HILARIOUS (can you remember trying to get that red triad member down the drain before the other dude rounds the corner? what a LOL!). Its definitely gotten BETTER. And yeah, who the hell wants to watch 47 taking his pants off and untying his shoes :p. hehehe

Huge fan of the series and I'm looking forward to this one as well. That said I'm really disappointed with the episodic rubbish...Not sure why they thought this was a good idea in the 1st place but I guess we're stuck with it.

Yes, that was some serious lols... but it's always been acceptable given the time and technology, I just feel in this day and age we could improve upon it. But yeah, it's just little things I know but it still bugs me.

I agree with you completely, though I am at least happy they've kept the episodic structure in line with their pricing structure. Not that badly priced for each episode, better than charging AAA prices for each. For some people who can't afford a fullt title release, this is perfect and quite affordable in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm sort of in two minds about it too, to be honest. I originally felt a little like Joker. Sort of "why would they do it that way, surely all of the game should be ready at release time, so why not just release it in full?" But I think I've gradually slid over to the Beo side of things now. The pricing seems fair, and those who are not 100% sure they'll enjoy the new game get to pay for Ep 1, and can then decide for themselves if they want to put any more to the game for the next episode or not.

Mmmm 1st minor complaint...I'm hoping this is a beta thing and it'll be better when the game launches...The graphics don't seem all that great...I'm thinking of reinstalling absolution just to compare but I'm sure absolution looks better.

!st Minor compliment...The game isn't clunky anymore...every little movement and action is fluid and smooth, which is fantastic.

Awesome stuff...Absolution was pretty good in the graphics department but holy CRAP was it heavy on the CPU...man that thing killed my Phenom when I got it :(

Very happy to hear about the movement, it more a part of the immersion and feeling of the game than one might think :)
