Right so Basically this thread is for people like me who don't know what is what in our fantastic world. So what I'm looking for basically is an upgrade within the budget of R5-6k
What I NEED to upgrade:

Motherboard
CPU
GFX
Ram
PSU? (Have one running at 400w)

^So basically everything except storage it seems...

Anyways, I might be looking at a AMD config since I heard you could take a daul core Phenom II and unlock it to a quad core? :?

Please help? :<
 
Well how much are you wanting to go for AMD, Intel are more bang for buck at the moment so I would go for Intel if I were you. Also is there any preference on gpu with AMD or Nvidia?
Do you use it to game a lot or is it more for multimedia etc?

I have no real fanboyism, I'm just trying to get the best bang for my buck, and as I've said I don't know what is going on in the industry. Also I'll be wanting to game ALOT (You know play all those titles that I missed out on in the recent years due to having a celeron 1.8 and a geforce8500 :P)

Edit: Also, no real preference with AMD or Nvidia, whichever will get me the farthest for the cheapest I suppose :P

What genres do you like? Do you need peripherals? How old are your hard drives and what spin speed do they have? Do you care for overclocking? (if it is really simple)

As he doesn't know a lot about pc's I highly doubt that he overclocks, but yeah. Need a budget before we can try to help.

Dont put your money on unlocking cores... If you buy a dual to unlock it and it doesnt unlock, u gonna be sad with a dual core... Ask my brother.
Phenom 955 can be picked up for a decent price.

You could get:
Intel Sandy Bridge 2500k (it is only a small amount more than the non-oc)
Corsair DDR3-1333 4GB (2x2GB) XMS3 Memory Module Kit
Asus ENGTX560 Ti DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX560 Ti 16xPCIE 256-bit 1GB GDDR5 w/mHDMI + DVI-I
Asus P8H61-M LX IH61 Motherboard w/A8 + G + LK + SATA3

For around R6K

And with that you shouldn't need a new PSU unless your one is a non-name brand one that isn't really 400w or is old. That said you should have as much power available as you can muster up as a power supply running at or near capacity can be unstable and damaging to components.
