The Motivation Thread

That looks like an awesome project! Post back with progress and pics!

+1 It looks like a fun project.

On my side I've got some boring accounting work to do tonight that I've been ignoring for a while now but it has to be done. My goal is to get at least an hour's work done every evening this week, Monday to Thursday and to go to the gym at least 3 times.

We should have a chat at some point about doing a "skill-trade" site, where we can volunteer to help each other out with specific skills. Like, I could help with accounting, f'r instance. I like Excel, like some kind of weirdo. So if we had a site where you could get someone else to do your unwanted jobs in exchange for doing wanted jobs......

That's maybe a good idea. Haha I can do your c# and you can do my accounting. :D

But the "accounting" that I have to do isn't all that much accounting and more data capturing. I've got bank statements that I have to get into Excel to send to my accountant. So it's just plain boring work. The whole business side of running a business is something that I really don't like. The accounting and the taxes and all that are things that I know so little about.

That does sound boring. I hereby rescind my offer.

Ja, I'd like a site where you could sign up and note your skills, what you're trying to get better at or learn, and what you need done, and that the site can then match you with people that can use your skills, give you work to help learn, teach you, or help you out. I think it'd be useful.. Almost like the freelancing sites, but with free services and thus more emphasis on community and teaching/learning.

My wife and I are working now, helped her with her call roster, and now she's going to study while I try and work on my C# thingy.

Good luck! Let me know if you need help. I'm a professional C# developer. :)

And I've done my accounting for tonight! So glad that's finished. Now I can go watch Game of Thrones.

Good for you! I will definitely not bother you in GoT time, so I'm going to try and figure out uri composition now, and hit you with questions tomorrow! :D

How did it go with you guys this week? I'm proud to say that I managed my gym goals but unfortunately only worked 2 of the 4 evenings. One evening we didn't have power and yesterday I was too tired and lazy.

Tomorrow morning I plan to wake up early and play Dark Souls. Then take a shower and work on my project from 9 to 12.

We've had a similar week, except that my wife had night shift Wednesday night, so last night we spent relaxing and catching up on series. I've got some work I want to get out of the way tomorrow morning, then maybe try and work on some of my random ideas for sites.

Got a new module and assignment for the week, haven't yet started. Dunno if I should plan to do this kinda stuff every night or bundle it to do all during a Saturday/Sunday.

I did quite a bit of house renovation prep this week and cleaned quite a lot

My week has been very productive. I've played 3 action cricket games this week, and still managed to get my fat ass to the gym twice. Planning on adding maybe 1 more time either today or tomorrow morning. I've also started to abolish some of my unhealthy eating habits and trying to stay on the more straight and narrow. And I managed it quite well

Then, on the work side, I've already finished my Project Management For Strategic Advantage assignment, I've started working on my Strategic Planning assignment, so all is well in my studies as well. Still need to work on my individual big BDAL assignment though, and I am behind on my prescribed reading.

But I feel like I've had a more balanced week this week, getting more than enough exercise, sleep and study time in, as well as rewarding myself with game time as well. So it's been a great week for me.

Got just under 3 hours work done. Wasn't able to do nearly as much as I wanted to. May continue a bit later today.

How have you guys been doing?

I've been really great at setting an hour aside each evening and getting work done. But.... I freaken haven't been able to get up early to go to the gym. I just feel so tired. I went to bed at 9 last night and only got up at 6:30 this morning and still feel tired. To get up at 5 is just so difficult.

Tonight I'm going to put my phone way on the other side of the room and hopefully force myself to get up early tomorrow.

How have you guys been doing?

Been pressed for time lately, but managed to finish up late last night with my studies for this weeks module and assignments.
Going to moving house tonight and unfortunately it has to be done tonight. Hired the help of my sister to assist in moving furniture and the sort, but alas I cannot get time off work to do it during the day. Gonna be a busy night.

Not to mention I'm a little under the weather and doped up on meds. Also, haven't had much time for gaming of late.

How have you guys been doing?

I will be finishing the second assignment tonight if all goes well. I have completely lost myself in my studies. I find myself reading more and more about complex business paradigms and I'm developing this habit of analyzing and and all business related things from a systems thinking approach. I also have this craving of creating something like a website or a Youtube channel in which I discuss and break these complex business ideas down for more people to understand

Then, on the health part, I've slipped the past 3 days and have been eating like a bad boy. I've also not been to the gym in 3 days. Yet. the last time I was there I've lost 2.5kgs, which is great. Just got to get myself back into the bloody gym and get myself eating correct again.

Also, I did something crazy, and signed myself up for a speed dating event tomorrow night. I'f I'm changing my life, might as well go crazy and change everything, right?

Just reading through your comments is helping me out.

Keep it up. Need to push until this becomes the normal state of being.

Keep going through motivation cycles. Just need to try and keep the motivation up for longer and the demotivation(?) at a minimum.
Also started gyming a few weeks ago and the physical stuff really helps with not feeling overwhelmed a lot of the time even if its just gyming for a short amount of time. Even if you just go for a walk its going to help.

Sure winter is tough to get into a physical activity but just remember, and I use this as my motivation for physical task...

Working out, whether it be in a gym or just a physical activity creates oxygen in the bloodstream, the more you do it the more oxygen you get. Also remind yourself that Oxygen is addictive, therefore making the strenuous tasks a simple one once you get into it.

It's that easy, so it's mostly a mindset, so just power through it...
