The Official Battlefield 1 thread

So it begins to appear that physical PC version may not come with a CD/DVD but a download code. This would be really kak if there's a 50GB download. Can anyone confirm if physical PC release comes on any, one or many DVD's? Jan Jamie McKane

Also yeah its a damn shame about no local servers I'm sitting here itching to buy it,I mean the beta wasn't so with 200 ping but it would take EA so little effort to hand us some servers.

But I am sure I seen a couple of articles about local servers but a quick google this is what mweb says about it. Strange cause I thought oh at least they got the local server issue resolved. Well I am glad I decided to pick the game up later.

Hey all,

Just stumbled on this forum looking for info on local servers and thought I'd add my 2c.

I played through every day of the beta and the 10 hours of Origin Access and I've godda say I 'm super impressed with how the game performs at 180 ping. I honestly don't notice much lag at all.

Obviously for competitive play and for a thriving SA community in general, local servers are a must. But for the casual gamer just looking for a good time with mates, the game is extremely playable on EU servers, and I can't recommend it enough.

Hope to see ya'll on the battlefield in 6.5 hours. Look for me / add me on origin: Eviil_P :)

~180 ping not bad, but when playing against some guy with <30 ping you going to come out of the fight, dead more often than not.

Battlefield has never really been a twitch shooter like CoD, and in BF1 I think the pace has slowed down a little more compared to previous iterations and thus becoming a little more forgiving. They've improved dramatically on the netcode and might even be [-]stealing[/-] taking ideas from Overwatch. Despite having a high ping in contrast to others on the server, you never really feel cheated because of the way you died. Not like BF4 where you were constantly killed while behind cover. Sure it's not going to be ultra competitive because of this, but still fun nonetheless.

My argument is that unless we as gamers stand up and do something about it, it's not going to change. And I don't see that changing at all. For example; when this whole debacle about BF1 not having local servers and with the price increase, all my mates climbed off the train and we all agreed that we weren't going to be buying BF1. Needless to say, I am now trying to fund the purchase as everyone has bought it and already playing...

If anybody is unsure, the the retail PC version comes with 5 dvd's containing 38gigs data. Afterwards it downloads and extra 2 gigabytes. Maybe worth considering for people with slow download speeds/cap.

Hells bells but BF1 is a fantastically fun game! Been having an absolute blast every moment in the game. I've completed about half of the single player stories, and they are tremendous. Very atmospheric, extremely well told, acted and visualized, and serves as great additions to the multiplayer part of the game. In that I've put in about 10 hours in. Vegged this weekend after finishing all my work and taking a breather with some BF1. The damn game would frustrate me because I suck and then I get a lag spike, I rage quit, and after 15 minutes all I can think about is playing it again. I spent last night finishing round after round of conquest, saying the infamous line "just one more" again and again. Freaking addictive.

I still suck at the game though. Playing on Xbox One and there are a lot of really good players I keep on getting matched with. I tend to end up in the middle of the pack the whole time. Not due to the KD ratio, which for me sucks, but due to points from playing the objectives.

What is the best of my experience so far with BF1 is the stories I can tell of stuff that happened to me. On one occasion, I did a bayonet charge and stabbed a guy in the side. It's a great feeling doing that, but the moment I looked up I saw a tank barreling down on me. Like this tank looked like it ramped over a dune and came crashing down on me. It was an epic moment. In another game I kamikazi-ed into a point with a plane, killing like 5 people in one go. Mere moments later my team stormed the point, capturing it and keeping it for the few second we needed to pull out a win by less than 5 points in conquest. I felt so badass!!

Are there local console servers? Work coleque says he is playing, has a latency of 12ms (he is on fibre) and is buddies on 80ms. I told him he might not be seeing the first digit in the 100, but says no, as in seen 12 instead of 112 and 80 instead of 180

Do console servers work the same as PC servers?

As far as I know, yes.

Though DieGrootHammer can probably confirm, I'm playing at around 200ms average.

There is definitely no local servers for Xbox Live, that I can guarantee you. I constantly play with the latency symbol on orange, indicating that latency is over 200ms. From time to time the packet loss symbol would come up as well. Only had a handful of times where the symbols went to red, showing severe latency.

Also, when browsing for servers via the server browser, not one single server can be found when filtering on Africa. So as far as Xbox is concerned, there is no African servers at all. If he is really getting that low latency, he must accidentally relocated to Europe without telling you.

My connection may not be a fiber, mind you, but I do have a capped 10 Mbps ADSL line that.

Yeah, I have the same issues. So it appears to be related to their "no 3'rd party server" policy or something.

4mbps ADSL here and getting an average of 200ms as stated, that's with CrystalWeb premium. Despite this, the game is very playable.

Yeah, totally playable. I've also not had any problems since I started playing it.
