The Official "MyGaming" Anime Thread

yello fellow anime fans.

I would like to pick your brains about other Anime that are really roll on the floor laughing funny. Not like FLCL, as that was just too damned crazy. I'm talking Great Teacher Onizuka funny. Startle a laugh out of your belly kinda funny. I enjoyed Naruto that way, but that show never ends...

Help much appreciated.

There are quite a few I can think of but most of them are centered around school life. You could try; Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, Seto no Hanayome, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, Golen Boy, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Detroit Metal City, Cromartie High School, Nisekoi, Working!!, The Devil is a Part Timer and perhaps Beelzebub.

Devil is a part timer was good, I just finished gate not sure what to watch now any suggestions feeling like something epic , have watched one punch , attack on titan, and the 3 berserk movies recently,. Anything looming around I might not be aware of not that it's a narrow amount of stuff around by a long shot, I suppose I could do season 2 of Hitsugi no Chaika

When is that new berserk series set to air I see you mentioned it a few posts back.

As of now, Berserk is supposed to start sometime in July. Have you perhaps seen Durarara!!, Baccano!!, Ajin or Gangsta? While I have not watched it, Boku dake ga Inai Machi seems to be getting very good reviews around the web. Additionally if you are enjoying Coffin Princess, give Corpse Princess and Akama ga Kill a try.

Of those that I can remember watching. I liked these the most:

Death Note, Fairy Tail, FMA brotherhood, Kenichi, Btooom, Naruto , Magi, D-grayman, Wolf's rain, Rah-xephon, SAO, GGO, K, Zeutsen no tempest, Shingeki no kyojin, One Piece, Claymore.

It is in no particular order.

Oooh! Katanagari was superb, lot's of detailed dialogue, filled with debates on and around various forms of philosophy and some amazingly animated fight sequences. The final episode was truely superb I loved how Shichika changed slightly at the conclusion. Yet he kept is calm and happy demeanor but would no hesitate to kill the one person whom betrayed him...
Spoiler: show
despite her becoming his traveling companion in the end

The closest I have come to finding something similar to it would probably be Samurai Champloo and Rurouni Kenshin.

Scratching that itch again

VOLTRON! That is very tempting, but I have over 584 shows in my plan to watch list.
Side note! Netflix is working on a FLCL remake/sequel, I am interested to see how it is going to work out.

I always find the MAL rating system very interesting, it makes use of a linear scale which ranges from 1 to 10. The MAL website then works out an mean score bases on a simple statistical formula. You will generally observes two trends with the MAL rating system; The rating on a 'per episode' basis where every week ratings are given, and then rating the show once it has completed.

This produces some interesting results, it also displays some very interesting trends as well. Many of the scores either shoot up or down at the final week/episode. As viewers then either change their overall score, give their final score on the per week basis or give an total score for the entire show. This can also include viewers who have not watched the entire show and give a score based on their opinion.

Below we see the trend change more quickly due to the shorter time. Also not the sudden jump in the end.

Here is an example of a 25 week based show, Haikyuu is fairly popular and it keeps an average of 8.88 throughout. Then almost reaches 9 at it's conclusion.

Now this leaves us with some very interesting questions, Dagashi Kashi started off well with a 7.62 which a fairy decent rating. Over the weeks it fell quite steadily until it settled at 6.91, just .9 shy of being a 7. The show lost appeal as the weeks progressed. Very often scores will be given to shows by viewers that have not completed the show. I would also like to point out that Dagashi Kashi is about sweets and manjū so if you are not familiar with the content and culture behind it, you are more likely to rate it lower. I have not seen Dagashi Kashi so I am unable to give my opinion on the show.

I do however rate subjectively, and very often will ignore the ratings given on shows, and rate it on many aspects. Madoka Magica, I am looking at you, with a 8.53 on MAL to me it was worth a 7 at most (in my opinion).

/u/zakzedd on Reddit has released charts showing the score progression of Winter 2016 the rest can be found here: http://imgur.com/a/LNLQR and here https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/4k0ugc/mal_score_progressions_for_winter_2016/

Disclaimer: These ratings simply show the trend in a set period of time, mostly 12. While there are some that run for 25 weeks. Once more people have watched a show the ratings tend to shift, as your MAL score is not set in stone. Scores can increase or decrease over time, and OVA's Specials and second cours can also affect the scores too.
As always ratings are subjective, they are simply the opinion of the person and are in no way correct or incorrect. I also find fault with MAL's rating system as it does not allow fractional numbers in the score, even 0.5 would be helpful The jump from 6 to 7 is quite large, statistically with 6.5 to 7 a lot smaller

Shippuden this week was again focused on the Kaguya back story, it served up more details on her two son's who where to become the base of the entire backstory. So at least the plot is moving forward a bit faster which is always good.

yea this backstory is cool, that small frog is the older frog you see talking to naruto when he went for training. hes super old

Kimi ni Todoke, is a charming shojo and romantic anime about Kuronuma Sawako, who unfortunately shares the same appearance of Sadako from the ring. Due to this she struggles to break from the social mold that high school life had built around her. Enter Kazehaya Shouta, who is popular and loved by all, he takes an interest in Sawako and her life begins to change.
I found myself laughing out loud at some of the more comical scenes, and calling out some of the antagonistic characters too, while they slowly plot a characters downfall. Don't let the idea of it being a "standard high school romance" bore you, it has was more charm going for it than many other romance series which are based of of Visual Novels and Games. Expect Ouran High School Host Club, that is in a league of it's own.

Hey guys, out of curiosity, manga or anime? If both, which do u consume first? Personally I didn't get into manga until I got frustrated with filler episodes & decided to just read the source & I found it quite enjoyable. I still like a greatly animated fight scene, but something about manga just feels more emotive. So, thoughts?

Depends on the series to be completely honest. I will normally watch a series, and then afterwards read the manga to see the differences between the two of them.

Sometimes there are quite a few noticeable differences, but there is a trend sometimes seems to occur with the endings of the anime and the manga. Death Note has it's own ending in the anime, but there is an extra chapter in the manga, which add's some extra information and makes it quite interesting. Other times they will cut the show short due to a lack of source material, or the show was only set to run a certain amount of episodes. I am looking at you, Deadman Wonderland.

Then again they stay true to the story and release a series when it has enough source material and funding to do so. JoJo's bizarre adventure is done like this. Occasionally we are lucky and see the return of a series; Berserk and D.Gray-man... Other times we are not so fortunate, as with HunterxH

Most of the popular ones have been turned into some form of anime, Nuruto, Nisekoi, Berserk, JoJo's InuYasha, One Punch Man, and Card Captor Sakura to name a few. I tend to skip fillers when ever possible, but sometimes it's quite entertaining, One Piece and InuYasha do have fillers but they are not even noticeable as it flows so well with the story.

It is also interesting to note who the publisher is, as very often that can give a hint as to if an anime series would be a very likely option in the future. As an example CLAMP makes some amazing manga and most of it is turned into anime at some stage.

Much of the manga I read has not been turned into a anime, while some of it has. Manhwa on the other hand seldom even get's made into an OVA let alone a series. This is really heart breaking sometimes as God of High School and Tower of God would make amazing shonen and seinen shows, respectively.

Interesting. I just now realised all the manga I have read has been because of anime I've seen, be it recently or in my childhood. I had a friend back in varsity that told me most short anime are promo for manga, & I've seen quite a few 12 episode anime series that have endings that just easily translate to 'come read the manga if you want to make sense of what you've just seen'.
I also think One Piece fillers blend pretty well with the story without interfering too much with the cannon content. In fact I didn't know which episodes were filler until I started reading it.

I can appreciate the difficulty of translating a good manga series into an equally good anime, so I like to lie to myself & say that maybe some manga are way too awesome to be competently animated.

You have a fair point, sometimes it's better to keep things on paper than attempt to animate it. It can loose some of it's charm and character, but believe that progress is being made. Very often it's the lack of funding will prevent a series form ever forming or returning. Anime studios in Japan receive one tenth of what American animation production companies use for one episode, $100,000 vs. $1,000,000. Thankfully streaming services are helping the industry along, bringing anime to the west much faster.

Hehe, I've actually heard of some bizarre merchandising to fund some anime projects.
