The Official "MyGaming" Anime Thread

UNISA! How are you finding it so far? Personally their standards have dropped dramatically over the past couple of years, from when I started, but maybe because I choose to point out their faults all the time.
Going for 480 Credits, I wish you good luck! Technically I should have gotten 360 credits but I managed to get away with 336 for some reason.

I have woes with certain administrative staff members, there are times when I enquire about important matters, that are met with no responses. In my first year I had to approach the ombudsman's office about two particular issues and they were pleasantly helpful and sorted it out. Other than that, my material arrives on time. I don't contact lecturers often, so can't comment on that.

I suppose you can boil it down to different departments. That reminds me I need to go to the branch here and find out how the closure of my degree is going to work.
My biggest gripe was that sometimes I never got feedback on assignments on time, I would write my exam and magically I would get results on an assignment.
I tried contacting 2 different lectures with queries to assignments the one was just not available at all. The other the same, but had put some on in their place and they knew nothing about a particular portfolio, which is basically your exam. Perhaps I just have had bad luck with the Human Sciences and Language Departments. I am glad I did it though, was way cheaper than a normal university and it helps you build up a lot of self control.

Any Way! Back on topic!

What's the names of these shows?? On a side note, I really enjoyed Ni no kuni, not only because I do so love RPG's , but because of the fact that it felt like I was playing an anime series :D. I do feel as though there weren't nearly enough anime cinematic scenes :(, plus, it was the only game I got a platinum trophy for. :D Another thing, I had to switch Ni no kuni to Japanese voice acting with subtitles, how I prefer it.

Any input on Tengen toppa gurren? I actually won the Lazengann action figure a few years ago, but I have never watched the series, I don't even know what it entails :wtf:
I've also heard a lot of good on it. I actually had it before my external died on me but never got around to watching it.
The mecha genre is huge, and it's not always about gigantic robots. Very often they are used as a smaller part of the plot and also to full in the action sequences, as seen in Code Geass, which is known more for it's plot twists than it's mecha.
So true, sometimes when I see Code Geass in particular on lists meant for mecha anime it catches me off guard a bit. One that I remember being a bit different was Break Blade or Broken Blade, depending on where you're looking. It was a nice and short one, I didn't think much of it when I watched it but I still remember everything that went on so it left quite an impression on me.
I've been watching anime since I was a wee lass, so I'd say I have a fair amount under my belt, yet there are oodles of 'popular' series that I've never even heard of

Just waiting for my exams to end, and for our uncapped line to be installed, then I will delve into the copious amounts of anime the internet has to offer. :D
I haven't been watching for that long myself, I started watching seriously when I got to varsity and had all that free internet. But I've seen quite a few dubs from my childhood to know I loved anime from even before I knew what it was. Something about the animation style and the stories. In the half decade or so I've tried to sample as many genres as I could, even watched some anime where a chick shot acid out her nipple. But I know I haven't even scratched the surface.

I normally browse /r/anime to see whats popular in the current season and then make a note to actually watch the show being praised/promoted. GATE, Boku Dake and Parasite come to mind (I have not watched them). Other times I do and I wish I had watched it earlier like JoJo's, Mononoke and Bakemonogatari. Or I just randomly choose something and find it to be amazing.
At this stage I am just trying to watch shows from the 1970's up to about 2010~ but that is not working out as 6 years of anime is a whole bunch.
Most of what I try to catch up on is from the early and mid naughties, and even some of the highly recommended movies. There were quite a lot of surprises, I ended up in love with anime I never even thought I'd like, like Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, which is now amongst my most favourite anime of all time, and its soundtrack is amazing, bad English and all.

I'm sorry I lost you at acid :wtf:, a series I do regret watching was Elfen Lied

BECK, I loved it too. Just not sure if the manga would have been as interesting without the music.

Hehe, it's too bad I can't remember what it was called, I went through a period where I binged on anime that was so explicit I had to lock the door when watching. But a lot of it was fun to watch, it's funny how I can't remember most of what I watched then but I was pretty depressed. As for Elfen Lied, I have no idea why so many people think it's that good. As much as I appreciated the skilfully illustrated nipples, the story wasn't all that good.

Top on is from K-On! It's a slice of life anime about a group of girls that form a music club at their school, it's really charming and funny.

The bottom one is from Carnival Phantasm. It's a parody of various Type-moon games most notable the FATE series and Shingetsutan Tsukihime. It's watchable as a stand alone, but I would highly recommend that if you are going to watch Carnival Phantasm at a later stage that, you watch FATE/Zero and FATE/Unlimited Blade Works. There is also FATE/Stay Night which is similar to Unlimited Blade works but tells a slightly different story. These serve as the basis of all the parodies and humor in the series.

Games! I have Dragon Quest and Valkyria Chronicles remastered on PS4, I want to play them so badly but I need to get through these exams first. Then there is a mountain of other games that require my attention too I wish I had a PS3 sometimes so I could enjoy the Tales series and Ni No Kuni, I have heard so much about about it. I loved the use of cel shading to give the illusion that you are playing an anime. Sadly I can only dream for a PC/PS4 port.

With the audio tracks, I am 99% Japanese unless, it has some top quality English Voice actors. Games it is subs all the way! It add's to the immersion with Anime it's a little different. If they have great English audio tracks, when I do a re-watch I normally watch in English. I know whats going on so my attention can be drawn to other things.
I found Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, FLCL and especially Hellsing Ultimate to have great dubs. Hellsing's team really want to town with getting French, British, German and Scottish voice actors to full the roles to make it more immersive.

I watched Code Geass when it aired back in 2007 then I re-watched it about ~3 years ago. I still found the plot twists and cliff hanger endings surprising. It's one of those shows that will for ever and always be very, very good.

I agree. I believe the popularity on Elfen Lied stems from the the super violence and partial nudity. Surprisingly, I have still to watch it!

*SUPER EDIT*
Let me know if you are looking for some anime films. I have seen a great deal and all of them are amazing.

Hehe, or Ryusuke's heavy accent. I was actually tempted into reading the manga to find out what happens after that big concert but never got around to it. Hopefully very soon.

I have FATE/Zero and the others queued on my watch list, looks like I'll be adding to it. Thanks :)

It's very hard finding half descent dubs, so much so that I just assume all dubs are bad. But there are quite a number of exceptions. The ones you mention are amongst the very good ones.
On Code Geass, it's one of those rare anime that are rewatchable. I still plan on watching it again someday, along with Berserk, which I watched when I was still getting into anime so it instantly became another of my favourites.

Some may argue that ZERO be watched after Unlimited Blade Works, but I would recommend that it's done prior. It is the prologue to Unlimited Blade Works story, and helps build the world the series it set in so there is more focus on the plot.

Not all dubs are bad, it's just that I find that there is less emotive language usage. Very often the voice actors come off as sounding very flat and dull. Where as with Dameon Clarke, he does an amazing job in both games and anime. (He voices Goku, Hansom Jack, Cell and Scar to name a few)
I will have to scratch out my GiTS: Innocence Blu Ray but I recall it had 2 audio tracks for English. One was called "American Dub" and the other was "English Dub".

Noted. And I'd appreciate any recommendations you make, I've been meaning to add more movies into the mix. The ones I've seen have been pretty awesome, with tear-jerking stories and amazing animation.

First of all, I would happily swap my PS3 for a PS4, I hope you like red :p. Secondly, Elfen Lied in a nutshell, scenes of paedophilia, incest, animal cruelty and gore :wtf:

Paedophilia? In Japan? Nooooo! Lol, but those nipples..

That is tempting... I would gladly take your PS3 off your hands (for a price) but I am not willing to part with it, just yet. My PS4 that is. :)

I never watched Elfen Lied, I have simply absorbed the various opinions of people around me and from the internet, so I somewhat have formed my own opinion on it. I believe there can be a balance with violence and other forms non-social(?) norms in various forms of media, but finding the balance is key. When used correctly it can create great stories, albiet shocking but good non the less.

:D I wouldn't part ways with my PS3 either, only got it 2 years ago. I can't afford PS4 games anyway , Gantz is suppose to be good, the one episode that I watched on animax, at least two people died.

PS4 titles are not that bad, while they can be ridiculous reaching R 1000 easily there are some nice titles at around the R 500 mark. Then again PS3 titles can go for less than R 100 second hand at BTGames and the library is much larger. I tend to hold off and purchase the games when the prices have dropped a bit.

Ah ye olde Animax, twas good while it lasted. Then DSTV went and ruined it with re-run after re-run of SEED and then showing that Kenny vs Spenny crap. Gantz is good, it just sucks that they ended it on a cliff hanger It's pretty violent (if you don't mind that sort of thing). There are also Gantz films if I recall but I never got around to watching them. I will add them into my "Asian Film Night" list.

Glordit, going through the anime list from your blogs, you've got some really good anime on there.

Thanks! I tried to update it recently but I have not had time. I have also watched quite a bit since then. So when I have the time again I will look into adding a few more lists from the shows I have watched.
