The Official "MyGaming" Anime Thread

I went to the OC LAN this weekend and racked up a ton of anime, including FMA Brotherhood 15 eps, One Piece to 410, Soul Eater 51 eps, D.Grayman 103 eps, Naruto Shippuuden to 118, Bleach to 229. I also got episodes I didn't know existed of Samurai 7 and Blue gender :D.

All good anime, went to mates place and got all of the eyeshield 21 anime :D now I have to watch it from the start again.

Some of us like the convoluted stuff ;) You can leave all the philosophy to us :D

Philosophical?? I loled.

Maybe I should explain my stance on NGE.

***********SPOILER ALERT************

For starters I find it irritating when someone, half-way through a series, thought it would be a great idea messing the whole story line up due to losing funding and apparently turning insane.

You can notice a shift in half way through the season, both in quality of the episodes as well as the tone of the series. Not only does our main hero go all emoboy, but also one of the heroines begins to think about her dead mother half-way through a fight with one of the angels. Uhm, timing could be better? She then refuses to work, she cries and our hero NOW has self-existence issues. How's that for a cool story line?

Let’s have a look at the characters and the story line…no wait sorry, I meant that thin thread the episodes try to connect each other in the second half of the series. Lots of personal story lines, but nothing does actually move the story forward. The story began something along the lines of “Defend Earth from the Angels”, then it turns into “Let’s save Earth – no wait, let’s all have our own emo-problems and turn all #$%^ed up!”

An then there's ‘Death & Rebirth’ and the ‘End of Evangelion’: It must have been some futile attempt to try and get the storyline sorted out or to calm most of the fans who were pissed at the ending of the series. Anyways, now we see the hero jacking off to the heroine (who is in a coma) and after some random fighting, crying, shouting, dying, killing, making ones body explode….well after some time of that the hero tries to strangle the heroine and fails just to be greeted with the word “useless”.

At that point I start asking myself why….. why did I put the hours into this anime, hours that I would never be able to get back, I have wasted time in my life on watching something with so much potential, so much potential!!!, just to see it get @#$*ed over.

How people can sing it's praises…. is beyond me.

Its like bing in the mind of schizo, on acid and insane person mind all in one. Yes you are right but it was the first proper anime that I watched and I still stand by that it was a good anime.

This was the very first series I watched completely. Some series I caught an ep here and there. This one I got and watched completely in less than two days. Then I got the OVAs and watched them.

Then in the mad hope that maybe I missed something I watched everything again, beginning to end.

The first half of the series had me hooked, the last half brought me crashing down. NGE is the one anime series that has anime communities all over the world split down the middle. It could have been THE mecha anime that all others would be based apon. Instead it turned into something else, something that dissapointed me to no end.

Lovers and critics should just face the truth...... Hideaki Anno screwed us over.

After watching the series and "End of Evangelion" I pretty much decided that you could scrap episodes 25 and 26, and replace it with the movie - things just made a lot more sense that way.

May be worth paying some attention to the manga, since that is still ongoing.

You can't deny, though, that the series as a whole made more impact than almost any other series.

For sure. On average it's probably the most "First wathced" anime ever. Still, I can't help but wonder what might have been had Hideaki Anno not run into financial problems half way through.......
