The Official "MyGaming" Anime Thread

That's the one. It's quite good IMO, but somewhat different from other anime series I've seen. The creators of the show (Rooster Teeth) have it on their YouTube channel.

Thanks. Will check it out.

Wasn't that what they were aiming for though? This different approach to your traditional Anime?

It's been a while since I've watched any anime, but I've recently started watching RWBY which is rather different from anything I've watched that is classified as anime. The story, the animation style, and the overall look. I'm really enjoying it a lot though :)

I also need to stop reading Bleach or Naruto manga:o, or rather they need to get done with their stories, as good as they are at the moment...

RWBY isn't really anime though - just uses the same style :p

It was quite a bit of a fun watch though - I just wish they'd settle on an average episode length.

Oi! I say it's anime, it's anime :p

Yeah, the disparity between episode length can throw one off

Wait, I thought Anime meant animation? While Manga meant magazine comics.

Ah ... it's just me being pedantic, really.

Basically, whenever anyone outside of Japan uses the word anime - they are referring specifically to Japanese Animation ie produced in Japan. The same goes for manga.

On the other hand, RWBY character designs are similar to that found in anime, but it's produced in the US, by a US company, and therefore, strictly speaking, isn't anime per se.

Something to the likes of Avatar: The Last Airbender I assume? I still find that to be the best I've ever seen, Naruto included.

Yep ... Avatar would essentially not be seen as an anime, not to western fans anyways.

Here's the bender though; in Japan, any animation, regardless of source, gets flagged under the anime tag :p

I think I'm going to start calling all animated works anime. I wonder how many people that's going to annoy :D

Anime, being of Japanese origin, should mean the Japanese are right, no? Why do we need to erect flags of definition when they all aim to do the same thing in essentially the same way.

Why can't anything be easy?

Because most Western fans of Japanese animation use it as a way to distinguish between Western Animation and Japanimation. It's not complicated.

Keep in mind that many words that make their way into English from other languages have meanings that are subtly different from their meaning in their original language. And because of the influence of anime on it's western fanbase, it's quite pronounced.

I can think of a few other examples. For instance - hentai, which pretty much everybody in the west uses to refer to animated pornography. But the actual meaning of the word in Japan is quite different, and doesn't actually apply to pornography at all, animated or otherwise. In Japanese, depending on how you use the word hentai refers to perversion or abnormality.

I've heard that the fact that references to erotic works as hentai is actually cause for offense, but I have no idea how true this is.

You won't annoy me. I'll just ignore you as the unsophisticated and uneducated barbarian that you are. Of course, I'll do my best to lead any infidel towards enlightenment. :p

That is to be expected actually. Thanks for putting things into perspective - I thought for a long time that hentai referred to a sort of NSFW type of anime, however I did at a time believe that anime and manga were the same thing, just drawn differently, lol.

Bleach Manga is getting really good, ToG is somewhat slowing down.

Feel like watching Ergo Proxy again.

2D recently introduced me to Soul Eater (and a bunch of other anime series), and I must say I'm loving it.

I also came across another series by the name of Strike Witches, and all I'll say about that piece of anime, is that it's on the weird side of things 0_0
