The Official "MyGaming" Anime Thread

What's number one?
Was watching magical warfare yesterday. Nothing amazing but pretty entertaining

Best anime I have ever watched was...TENGEN TOPPA GURRENN LAGAAN!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me say off the bat; It doesn't have the best art. NOr the best characterisation. Not the best score, not even the best animation.

But what it DOES do is define your ID, Ego, supergo and the struggle of human spirit all at the same time. It is both the embodiment of the child you used to be and the man you wish you were and for that; It cannot be topped.

I'm looking at starting watching some anime again - a friend of mine has started watching Attack on Titan, can anyone recommend it? The last anime I watched was Sword Art Online which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Are you watching Kill la Kill?

I highly recommend Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), was probably the best series of 2013.

If you enjoyed Sword Art Online, then maybe look into Log Horizon. Same type of anime but a lot more focused on the aspects of the game. I'm enjoying it more than SAO to be honest.

Perhaps try a few films first, 2 hours and you don't have to feel like you wasted time on 12+ episodes.

I can highly recommend:
Redline
Summer Wars
5cm A second
Paprika

The ending. SUCKED MAJOR BALLS. Period. It was ploy to get people to continue to read the manga. Granted I do say it was well executed and kept you coming back every week to watch, I just felt that they really murdered it with that ending.
2013 did not have much to offer most of it was drama/slice of life, Unbreakable Machine-Doll and Coppelion were probably one of the better ones that was out last year.

Ah... TTGL, where tossing galaxies was completely possible yet saving one man was not. Character progression, you sly bastard. Another great anime I somewhat felt they didn't know what they were doing in the middle of it and it found it's footing towards the end.

Apologies I am feeling slightly pessimistic tonight.
Let me just toss a recommendation in here: PSYCHO PASS, got a bit of everything, gore, drama, public execution, romance, death, betrayal - you know the usual Future cop drama genre. :)

Even better...

Jormungand - You have to watching this.

Coppelion one of the better ones? Seriously? All depends what you looking for in an anime. Last year had some great ones. Kyousogiga. Shinsekai. Zetsuen no tempest. Uchoten kazoku. Gatchaman!

Tempest dragged its feet too much, I want more story and less action as well as characters than can't be blown over because they are so flat.
Gatchaman, was simply a redux from an older original series - which was good (the original)
Shin sekai Yori, technically that is a 2012 show as it started in September 2012.
The Eccentric Family, I haven't watched it yet, so I will not comment on it.

As you said it also depends on what one is looking for in an anime. To each his own.

Definitely. But I agree that it could be considered one of the weaker years of anime except for a handful of shows that appealed to me. Problem is that there's far too many pointless generic anime. Have you seen kyousogiga? Completely original anime (well started as an ova) and really has its own unique style to it and a decent plot but ambitious structure. I've actually slowed down on how much I've been watching as the great shows can really be far and few between..

Unbreakable Machine-Doll was good, but it left a lot to be desired.

The ending to Shingeki no Kyojin sucking, is your opinion. I personally like the series since it was gruesome and relentless, but that's just my views.

2013 really did have a few great series in my opinion.
  • Kill la Kil
  • Log Horizon
  • Kuroko no Basket
  • Free
  • Devil Survivor 2 The Animation
  • Btooom!
  • Shingeki no Kyojin

Lets just all agree that we will disagree with certain aspects of anime.

I Just can't put my finger on who is in your avatar, it looks like Lelouch but also like Andriod 17. I am going with 17 as he had the signature scarf.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. Will check out Attack on Titan and Log Horizon.

I'll see if I get a chance to watch those movies - I tend to like series though cus it's easier to find 30min in a day for a quick episode.

I watched Jormungand and thoroughly enjoyed it. Seemed to me kind of what a prequel to what Raiden from MGS'slife would have been like as a child soldier

The ending was what was to be expected from when you have a 25 ep contract for a still ongoing manga; I didn't mind it at all; I mean that's what you expect from a Gecko Ending. On a completely unrelated topic I just recently finished the manga "whistling:

Not yet, currently getting my dose of game style anime from Log Horizon.

What's Log Horizon about ?

Story:
After an event they name the Apocalypse, 30,000 Japanese players find themselves trapped in the world of Elder Tale, an extremely successful MMO. Shiroe, and his two friends Naotsugu and Akatsuki, band together to try and make sense of things, and to try and figure out how best to survive in a world where all the rules have suddenly changed.
The Elder Tale players find themselves in a world where many things are still the same as the game world they are familiar with, but some realities have become subtly altered, and they find themselves needing to step quickly to adapt. As such, Log Horizon actually includes a lot of political maneuvering, scheming and plotting, with Shiroe proving to be a master of all three. The series also includes a lot of explanations of various facets of the game – explaining class mechanics, or game mechanics, which MMO gamers will find familiar, and provides non-gamers some insight into some of the ways things work.

It's very much the same concept as Sword Art Online, but the execution is different. Where SAO focused on action and romantic relationships, Log Horizon is much more concerned with politics, inter-personal relationships and in-game mechanics. The pacing is also very different - were SAO moved at a rapid pace, Log Horizon can stretch one particular event over quite a few episodes.

So, enjoying Sword Art Online doesn't necessarily mean you'll enjoy Log Horizon, which takes a bit more .... ummm ... digesting, you could say. But it's still quite solid in its own right.

Sounds rather interesting. I will definitely be checking it out

If this question has already been answered please direct me to it, but does anyone know of any reliable anime streaming sites? I know and mainly use crunchyroll but it doesn't really have what I am looking for at the moment.
