That is what they have been saying. It seems reasonable considering the expense of releasing a new model.

If it turns off completely you lose features like being able to turn it on from the controller. The current consoles barely use any electricity anyway when they're in standby.
 
I just hope we can still play our PS3 games on the PS4 console. My PS2 and many many games are still sitting in the cupboard, and haven't been touched for ages. I've spent enough money on PS3 to not want to upgrade :-)
 
it will be very interesting when the ps4 comes out what the competition has and who will win the new console race

Thing is, they would HAVE to say that right up until the official announcement to prevent PS3/XB360 sales from nose-diving. Imagine the sales they'd lose (and we're in the Christmas sales zone in 3 months time, remember) if everyone was just gonna wait til the PS4 releases.
 
Interesting ,but seriously the design sucks
Specs seem ok , but to be honest like its been said 2011 means 2013 and by then industry standards will have moved on and my PC will still out preform this.

What will be good for Sony is upgradeable units ,that should be the next evolution of consoles

Really upgradeable consoles? You may as well get a PC then, as then the next suggestion would be newer OS when the hardware changes etc... A console is perfect for what it is designed to do, play games, you put the disc in and in the past you played, nowadays you put the disc in, it installs, it then updates and you might play after an hour or so ;-).
Consoles need to go back to their roots, put disc in and play, they should steer clear of trying to go like the PC. Also these probably aren't the specs of the PS4 seeing as we are 2 to 3 years away from it's release, we will start seeing the specs around late 2012 early 2013.

My thinking is I already forked out 4 grand on this unit , the new one will cost 6 grand and the game's 1 grand each
That is such a waste of money , replaceable GFX cards like cartrage slots
Up gradable firmware is always awesome
Plus as a dev it will allow you lots of freedom
just a idea , thou ....but this console nonsense is why I got back to PC gaming
I get so much more Value from my PC as long as I can play games on my PC a new console will be a far thought
 
I wonder what exclusives it will get. I enjoyed GT5 on ps3, especially the opening FMV was amazing. I think the games are more important, but thats just me. I fully agree with the backwards compatibility sentiment

I don't think the PS4 is coming out any time soon. But I wouldn't be surprised if Sony announce plans for the PS4 at E3 next year.
 
they will probably show it at E3 but it'll take 3 years to become available, wonder what cpu & gpu they'll use, will they got for all-in-one chip

Does the PS3 not already support 3D BluRay? I'm sure a system update added that functionality...

Anyway, the PS4 looks good. I really dont care about the technical specs. Just supply us with a reliable product that is backwards compatible!!!! Or offer to buy the PS3 games back or something...

Despite the fact that PS4 is going to be some new tech coming out to the market, I'm not too excited for it just yet because I just settled in with my Xbox 360 and I don't want to have to buy a NEW console again, I'm a bit short on cash lately :P
 
I feel it is far too early for the next generation.... The hours and tears I've spent on my PS3 compared to my PS2 is minimal and sad. That, or I'm just getting old. I feel like I'm still waiting for something great to come, exclusively that is. It used to be about Final Fantasy for me, then they went and skrewed it all up.
