The search for a new gaming chair (MyGaming column)

Me thinks you need a bit of a reality check. R150 for a chair is peanuts. You are never going to get a new decent chair anywhere south of R800. Quality chairs are expensive, that's just a reality. Your back is precious, take good care of it.

I've been sitting on a garden chair for the last few years since I just wasn't ready to invest in a proper chair. However October last year I decided enough was enough and got myself a R900 "leather" highback chair, best decision I've made in a long time.

A decent chair can make those hours of back ache inducing gaming into one where the hours pass by without a whimper of discomfort.

That is only good for console gaming and movies, just gonna screw your back up trying to play pc games that way :P

Picked up a nice high-back office chair at @Home last year for R750. Support for lumbar region et all. Very comfy chair and perfect for spending anything from 5 mins to 5 hours at the screens.

Yep... Learnt a long time ago that the chair is important... Only a high-back leather chair with lots of padding and all the up-and-down and tilt settings will do as my primary chair... non-negotiable.

I used to game on some crappy office chair that you couldn't raise up so I'd be virtually on the floor. That thing used to kill my back. Fortunately I got a decent high-back for Christmas last year, much more comfortable. A good chair is a must for any gamer.

I really enjoyed that article, I am quite surprised more people haven't ever really mentioned the chair in articles about gaming etc.
I use an old granny chair, or at least it looks that way. I think it is even older then me. It is comfortable for about 4 hour sessions till it starts hurting my rear end.

I usually chill on the couch with my feet up. But that's the nice thing about console gaming.

I must say though that my old chair at the office screwed my back up for a good year. If you're sitting for long periods of time, it's a must to have a good chair.

Lets talk about the car seat idea.

what does a seat cost at a scrapyard? - R500?
which seats are comfortable? - i`m thinking one of those old mercs. Racing seats will look nice though.. are they comfy?
what to mount it on? - an office seat chair base might be too flimsy
armrests?

That chair in the last pic, I got it as a birthday present. Was so stoked thought it was going to be so comfy and it was until two months later when the plastic arm rest broke at two places and I'm not a big dude (75kg). Lesson learnt, never get a chair that has any plastic for support!

A racing bucket chair sounds so dam unconfy.

Why not look at some truck seats car seats don't really fancy them for long hours, also just feels too huge for a smallish game room.

i need a good comfy lazyboy style chair for gaming sessions. sitting on the couch for hours is killing my back :-(

Had exactly the same chair as my first "proper" leather chair and it also broke... and the arm rests keep the chair together. Also, I could feel the screws from the bottom... not enough padding.

I have had 2 chairs since then, also plastic arm rests, but considerable better quality. I suppose you get what you pay for. That chair with the arm rests that broke was the cheapest of the lot.
