I had a boss that did a similar thing - turned really nasty to the extent that I hid the petty cash = I ended up filing it under P for petty cash - since she at one point accused me of stealing, so I hid it so that its not that easy to find and steal . . . .

I sent her a post card from the UK telling her where it is. . . .
