/wonders why Malema is still given a voice

He is a demagogue, political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument. Unfortunatly a large majority of the South African voting public are uneducated and still have deep seated tribal mentality. Thus they easily follow someone who promises tells them what they want to hear. What you guys need are more young, post apartheid, young adults speaking out. Like young Mr Lepota over here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-19345289)

"evil thrives when good men do nothing", that's what pops in my head when I look at some things in this country... Then you ask yourself, "What do you do?"...

/sighs and sips on Rooibos tea

Very unfortunate truth

"And Atlas, tired from holding the world up, shrugged and let it tumble from his shoulders." Is how I feel.

Well Malema is treading on thin ice with all facets of the government, even now he's trying to mobilize the military. One way or another he's going lose badly. Unfortunately, should some shady character decide to take him out, they will simply make a martyr out of him.

That would be a tragedy.

Side note: The ANCYL tried to recruit me 2 years ago... With talk of breeding young leaders

Yes, very unfortunatly, the post 1994 government's biggest and furthest reaching failings is seen most clearly in the education. Did you know that SA has some of the worst maths and science marks in the world. However the cynic in me want to say this was done on purpose as keeping the population ignorant makes them easier to manipulate.

It is just funny if you consider the amount of other African countries that where freed from "the white colonialists" that then descended into anarchy that your so called leaders could fumble so badly. While I am not naive enough to say that colonialism was was without its faults I do feel that African countries and specifically South Africa's continuing to cling to communist ideals will be the downfall of the country that, like some of our other African neighbours, could take decades to rebuild.

That's just it. I believe that the government is deliberately screwing up education. Once you start becoming educated, you start asking questions. And that is the last thing the government wants -even they know that anybody with a inkling of common sense would see right through their bullshit.

That is the biggest problem, he has endured himself with the masses, being an person of the people, that simply killing him would only make matters worse. What you need to do is break down his reputation. If you recall before Zuma's election he was also "the people's choice" but look how quickly he's fallen from grace. The shut Julias up the same needs to happen, unfortunately due to all these government corruption issues and julias's continually pointing it out to the masses, they are unlikely to believe the truth even should it be exposed. It need to be independent and clean problem is take him out leave a power vacuum for another Youth League power hunger young dictator to fill his place. What you need is someone else, also a person of the people, who has more rational and progressive ideals to arrive on the scene, gather a following and then be killed, assassinated publicly, and it should look like the ANC or Youth League or someone did it.

Off topic, this is me during MW3 MP :D

+1 Thanks for the link

+1 that realization has plagued me for some time.

This current government doesn't even seem to be looking at any future consequences of their tyranny. It's a case of them looking out for themselves 1st, and then only looking at the rest of the country. What kills me is the irrational responses from people when you ask why they still allow this to continue (with their votes) if they have strong opinions against their government. "We don't want apartheid back", really?! We don't know what other parties might bring to the table because we haven't put them in a position where they can change anything. So why not see what they have to offer. If it's good, keep them, if its bad, make a difference choice next time. But we (the people keeping a certain party in power) can't keep the bad for 3 terms and be surprised with what we get.

/ends rant

Precisely. You get what you vote for.

I used to love reading/watching/listening to the news...I have stopped now (well the general news, anyway, just stick to stuff I like) because it depresses the fuck out of me. Everyone gets angry at someone, then it dies down, then they get angry again, then it dies down. No one does anything about it and expects change to come from that. Political news these days just seems like a really bad reality show (not that any of them are good), where it is a bunch of idiots running their mouths and making people angry.

From now on, instead of the (political) news, I'll watch Adventure Time.

Thing is no-one, except maybe a few ultra-radical right wingers, want apartheid back and it sure as hell wont come back just because a non-anc government is elected. I dunno, that part of me that grew up in SA and still things of it as home (small as it may be) looks and feels sad. However the cynic, misanthropic, part of me (that all the rest) wishes the system would just collapse there, that it would descend into anarchy. If I could make a call now and know that I could get all my close family out tomorrow I would not give 2 shits what happened there.
