I have 2 crazy friends and what they talk about in politics is sad and scary I also tend to get bored.

I was lucky enought to have finished school two years after conscription ended.

That is one potential nightmare I avoided.

Dude the army is a meat grinder. I will never be in it. When you are in the army you are just a another number thats it.

Still, I don't think I would have appreciated having abuse hurled at me, having to go for lengthy period without food or water,
being shot at or going on 20km runs wearing full combat regalia.

I would have been useful for as long as I could stop a bullet.

In China, when you go off to university, they engage you in about 3 months compulsory military training for both girls and guys. I some times think it would be pretty cool if they had that in this country.... from a skills learning perspective that is

No thanks. In Isreal every one including girls at the age of 16 must be in service for three ears(includes real fights and they have allot of them.) I have always fantasised being a troop but the reality is it is shit

Hmmmm......Life Skills....might not be a bad idea, Powderbucket.

Not all of us are university-grade material though, so I would like to see it happen towards the end of high school.
I think that I would have benefitted from that, provided that the teacher was prepared to do more than hand us a pile of magazines to read before reiring to his office. [That was "Guidance" at Selborne College in the 1990s]

China and Isreal both have good systems I think. I think a compromise is a good idea. Go though full military training and a year of service, but going into combat is completely voulintary.
