Engaging characters and a well-realised gaming world do it for me. Eye-candy is nice to have, but of secondary importance.

Oh....how could I forget gameplay? A game which will cause me to lose track of time and play much longer than I intended is also one I shall treasure.

I have to agree with you. I like to grow attached to characters in games. I remember vampire the masquerade blood lines was very fun. It was buggy as hell but it was one of my fav games of all time.
 
I say cod does not really have any tactics. Bc2 if you work as a team and have good coordination you will win. But every man for himself you are bound to loose. More skill is involved in bc2. I wet myself win I took down an Apache heli. Killing two people and then I shot down a black hawk with a full load. Shit but it is not easy to hit helis.

thats rich coming from somebody who doesn't play cod4 online a fair amount
