Nah....I would not have expected him to put down R1999. It's a Shuffle. I wouldn't have had the nerve to ask for anything more expensive.

Still, it's my first Apple device. :)

Also more convenient to take a Shuffle to work and listen to music on that than on a Touch.
 
I wouldn't mind a Nano. I think buying a Touch is a bit of a waste though.

I had a 2gb Shuffle, but it broke after a while. The power sliding button got stuck on the off side. Probably not even worth the money to get it fixed.
 
I wouldn't take a Nano over a Shuffle. The screen on the former is too small to be of much use to me-and it costs a whole lot more.
If I wanted a portable device I could use to view pictures or movies, I would go for the Touch or something similar. [Back when I still had a PSP, I hardly ever used it to watch movies]

my 1.5tb has failed (after installing a sony kak dvd burner in my pc that caused a power surge) and i'v lost all my data.
